Nomad and Android

Hello,  I ordered my Nomad today and was told by my Directv Technical Support Representative that the Nomad was now available for all Android devices supporting an operating system of 2.1 or higher.  I was under the impression that this was not ready yet but when asked to confirm he stated the same information.  Has anyone heard differently?

Also , in regards to the 30 day window for storage.  Is that 30 days after downloading or does it restrict shows that were on over 30 days ago?  I often fall behind on my DVR and would love to download programing that I recorded last month.  Sorry if this has been answered somewhere else.

Thanks all

I don't think the Android is available yet.

After 30-days on your remote device (iPhone, laptop), the shows are deleted.  They can be re-downloaded again as long as they're still on your Nomad, which will keep those shows available until you delete them from your DVR.

You may not be aware that copying a program from your DVR to your mobile device or computer is a two step process.  First the program is converted to a lower resolution and copied to the Nomad memory.  This process is quite slow requiring about an hour of conversion time for each hour of programming.  Following that you can copy that program from the Nomad to any or all of your mobile devices rather quickly, maybe about 6 or 8 minutes for an hour long program.  The program will remain on the Nomad and can be copied anew to your mobile device should the 30 day expiration develop.

I've had the nomad a month or two but can't use it because I mistakenly assumed it would work with android immediately...  patiently waiting.... My brother has an iPad though and he's loving the nomad and the new iPad app that just came out..... so hopefully good things to come to Android.

@jerz - you mentioned your brother has the new iPad app. I was under the impression that was not available and there is nothing in the app store. Did he get this elsewhere or is he using the iPhone version on his iPad?

Thanks!

I believe the actual iPad App is still in the "coming soon" category.  I'd guess the individual is using the iPhone App.

I've had the nomad since the beginning of Nov and I'm still waiting for the Android version. Luckily we have an old 3gs that we use as an ipod to watch shows from nomad. And the PC app is sluggish but serves its purpose once the show starts playing. Hope the Android version comes out before the holidays!

Does anyone have problems transferring a program to an iphone/ipad while simultaneously transferring a program to the PC app? In my configuration, the Nomad apparently cannot handle transferring a program to the iphone while simultaneously transferring a program to the PC app and would need to be power cycled to resume normal operation.
