Not under contract

I have had my direct since 2013 and haven't been under contract in years. When I cancelled my service they sent me a box to return my equipment. Do I seriously have to return it?

If it a returnable model then yes, what is the receiver model number? It doesn't matter how long you have had service or if you are under contract you have to return the leased receiver.

Nothing to do with your contract. Upon disconnect you return the boxes unless they have changed to a non-returnable status. What are the models of each of your boxes? It is possible not all of them are returnable.

But what is your issue with returning it in the prepaid box they provided you? You can't do anything with the box once canceled. Even if non-returnable, it gets recycled. You cannot transfer the box to someone else.

Maybe that I work out of the US and won't be back for several months to use
the return box.

What model DirecTV box?

Older models don't even need to be returned.

If a box was sent, then there is at least one returnable model. Must be returned to DirecTV within 21 days before the NRF bills. If the box comes in a bit late, then the NRF gets reversed of course.

However, being out of country for several months, perhaps you could have a friend/family member finish the return for you.
