Old receivers and remotes

Our receivers and remotes are about 5 years old, keep having to reboot the main box. How do I exchange them for newer versions?

Call DirecTV 1-800-531-5000 to discuss the issue and get a warranty replacement if needed. Delivery is $19.95 for the box, covered if you have their optional equipment protection plan.

Not a guarantee of getting a newer version. Since your screenshot shows you have a HR44, then a warranty replacement will get either that model or HR54 depending what is in stock. The only benefit of the HR54 over the HR44 is supporting the 4K Client (C61K), but with just a couple channels in 4K (and some PPVs) not really a huge perk.

If rebooting the Genie (main box) fixes the issue (temporarily) for all the boxes, then that confirms it is the problem and the others have no need to be replaced.

Now if the other boxes are Mini Genie Clients, then I would consider upgrading one of them if you are qualified for a free upgrade. Get a HDDVR which has 2 tuners and 500GB recording space. With the dedicated tuners and processing, it will not go down if you reboot or have other issues with the Genie. Still can see the recording list from the boxes and there is no difference in monthly cost. An upgrade comes with a 24 month service agreement, which of course a warranty replacement does not.

As a note if offered, do not upgrade to the Genie-2 (HS17). Not all the post-launch bugs have been squashed. Plus it forbids HDDVRs from being on the account, so restricts the system to a hard cap of capability. And if it matters for you, it does not have Picture in Picture (PiP) as it is just a server tower, only have Clients on all TVs which can use no more than 1 tuner each.
