Order new receiver

How do I order a receiver to replace one that isn't working at all?  It shouldn't be this difficult but for some reason I'm having trouble.

It should be simple ....

Call DirecTV and tell them your current box is dead. Be sure to have the box's model number, Receiver ID, etc when you call them at 1 800 531 5000. 

The replacement box is free if you have their Equipment Protection Plan, otherwise $20 for shipping.

What if I do not have Direct TV

 

and yes should be simple - easily found how to replace but NOTHING on how to get the replacement

Huh? You must have DirecTV to replace a DirecTV receiver. DirecTV receivers will not work with any other TV provider.

 

Please provide more info on your situation as this doesn't add up.
