Picture Quality Difference Between the Main DirecTV DVR Receiver and the Genie Minis in extra rooms

Are the Qualities different?

I was told by a customer service rep that the genie Mini had way better picture quality than the Main DVR Receivers.  I was asking the Rep I wanted better quality for my new TV.  She said she would send my a new Genie Mini.  I told her that the TV was going in the main room so I needed the Main DVR Receiver to be upgraded.  She said or implied that only the Mini Genie had the highest quality picture.

Did I get that right?  First is there a difference?  Second where can we get the resolution specifications of all of the equipment used?

The HS17 Genie2 doesn't connect to any TV only minis are connected to TVs so that is not true nor is it true with any other Genie.  Almost all programing is in 720 or 1080i with some PPV movies in 1080p and then there is the few 4K channels.

@AZTV

Generally speaking, there is no difference. They support the same resolutions.

However, if you have the 4K Mini Genie Client properly installed by DirecTV than you of course will get the higher resolution on the 4K channels only on that TV.

Since a Mini Genie has no tuners or recording space, for some it is a downgrade in capability.

What are the models of all your boxes?

Hello, the Genie Mini and the mains receivers devices support the same resolution: 1080p, 1080i, 720p, 480p, and 480i, so you would have the same quality no matter the equipment you have. Something that will improve your experience could be ordering a 4K Genie Mini, allowing you to enjoy your service in a better resolution.
Here, you can find the instructions to install the Genie Mini and its specifications https://www.directv.com/support/article/000075778 If you require further information, DIRECTV is a message away. Maria, DIRECTV Community Specialist

@Juniper Juniper:  Thank you for the info.

My Model #s are:

Main Receiver HR54-500

Bedroom Genie C41-100

DirecTV confused me above.@DIRECTVhelp  They said the Genie Mini and Receiver have the same resolution but then go on to say if I want better quality I should get a 4K Genie Mini???

What I really want is a 4K  Main Receiver.  My 4K TV is in the Family room where the Main Receiver is.  I don't want a Genie mini in the Family Room, I need a 4K Main Receiver there.  QUESTION:  Is a 4K Main Receiver available from DirecTV?

There is no 4K Genie, DTV never made one.  You will have to move the HR54 to a non 4K TV and use a 4K mini client on the 4K TV.

HR54 is the Genie (3rd generation). C41 is your Mini Genie Client (not a receiver or DVR as is an extension of the Genie). Think of it as one box running both TVs as the Mini cannot work by itself. So doesn't matter for your service which box is on which TV.

There is no 4K main receiver. DirecTV never made one. The 4K box is the C61K. You would have to order a 4K upgrade. The Mini Genie would be on the 4K TV and the HR54 on the other one.

If you want to go with the 4K upgrade, your TV must support HDMI 2.0, HDCP 2.2 and 60 FPS. This is tech installed. Comes with a 24 month service agreement. There are only a handful of 4K channels (primarily special sporting events and some PPVs). This does NOT upgrade all channels to 4K as there is very limited true 4K content.

(To clarify the HR54 was originally intended to be a 4K receiver. But requirements updated when it was too far into production. So instead of scrapping the line as would need new internal hardware, it was easier for the business to make a newer Mini Genie).
