Portable satellite

I received a KING ONE PRO as a gift. I am a DIRECT TV subscriber.  I was told by DTV that I would need a stand alone receiver and none of mine would work? Is this true?

Secondly : It seems in my setup that I need a dual co axle receiver, which only 1/5 receivers (my main home receiver) has.  Which DTV receiver model do I purchase? I saw on a you tube that a guy had a D12-100.

Third:  Do I then need to call DTV and place the new receiver on my account for use at a tailgate, camping....I, am not mounting to an RV.

Thanks

Sorry, but that King Pro dish is pretty much a boat anchor these days. DirecTV is phasing out standard definition broadcasts from their main satellite at 101ºW, which is all that dish can receive. Furthermore, old SD-only Receivers like the D12 are obsolete.

To use DirecTV with an RV you'll need a newer Winegard Trav'ler SWM HD dish and HiDef DirecTV Receiver/DVR. And activating that equipment will depend on what you currently have at home. What DVR/Receiver models do you have at home?

Ok good to know.  I will return the KING ONE PRO. I have 1 Genie DVR/DRICT TV receiver and 4 minnies.   I'm not using the portable satellite for an RV but for tailgating. We  want to be able to watch other football games while at our tailgate.

Mini Genie Clients cannot work without the main box. If you have a regular Genie (HR34, HR44, HR54) than a standalone H or HR model to replace a Mini Genie would be ideal.

However, if you have the Genie-2 (HS17) you are forbidden from standalone boxes as is a all-in-one setup.

Slimline SWM dish on tripod/sled mount or the Winegard Trav'ler for auto acquiring are your options.

Because of the MPEG-2/SD-only shutdown, D an R models are obsolete. Though R22 is MPEG-4 capable in the right setup for those that already have one activated.
