Power inserter

After some strong wind & frequent short power outages this afternoon our Directv is not working.  We get error message 771A on our HDDVR & 771 on the other tvs.

I called customer service & was advised to find & reset the power inserter (pi).  However it does not appear to be connected to any of the boxes in the house (we have 4).

We do have a white box attached to the DVR that was added a few months ago when we added whole home dvr access.

I am at a loss...I cannot find the pi...can anyone give me an idea of where else to look?  Our satellite is mounted on the roof of the garage & I've checked where it comes into the garage but the cable just goes up the wall & into the ceiling.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Do you know where all of the cable's connect at? If you have a cable junction box in the wall then more then likely the power insert is in there or it could even be in the attic, not a real good place to put it. If you also have the Internet connection kit connected to your home router check that cable line as well. You will be looking for a black box with a green light on it that also has either 1 or 2 cable lines connected to it. Good luck.

Thanks for the advice & picture.  We did get service back for a while...not all channels were working but most.  It's gone out again but we've got a technician coming tomorrow. My hubby finally found it, it's in the attic.

The box has one green light.  Customer service advised to unplug it for 15 seconds & then plug it back in to reset.  It took several minutes to reset entirely.  The service still did not return.

However, several hours later we noticed the red record light on the dvr...turn it on & service had restarted.

We'll see what the tech finds tomorrow as intermitten service reallly isn't a choice.

On again, off again power is a big enemy of the DVR's.  Many of us power our systems with an uninterruptible power supply.

power outages are hard on any electronics and the more advanced the more finicky they are. Everyone always forgets to check by the swm
