question about distance

hello. I am going to switch to Direct Tv Satellite however my mom lives behind me above the garage in an apartment. The garage is 70 ft from my  house. If we get a satellite can it be placed in between so we both receive a good strong signal? This will determine whether or not we go with Direct tv. We have four tvs in our house and my mom has two.

Is her address the same as yours? If not, she would need a separate account as directv is only good for one service address.

If it is the same address, then yes. As long as the technician finds an appropriate place for the dish (secure), he can route the wires to both locations with the appropriate splitters and receivers

If same residential address (so her "apartment" is not labeled as a separate address), then you are good there. Sounds like you are within distance to use the same dish.

Alternatively you could pay for a separate dish on the garage (no difference in monthly cost). You wouldn't be able to share recordings between the DVRs if done that way. Just in case you prefer not to have cabling run between buildings. If you do so, her boxes must be receivers as clients have to connect to the main box.

Since you mention 6 total TVs, make absolutely sure your order has no more than 3 Clients if you get a Genie. You must have a full receiver/HDDVR on the additional TVs for all to be in use at the same time.
