R22s, Swap vs. Upgrade, Old TV

Hi, I am posting here before reaching out to DirecTV itself about the required switch to other hardware to continue to see channels.  We have two R22 units and we want to "SWAP" these (one of these I think is at least required to be swapped) with an appropriate type unit with DVR capability, not wanting to do the "upgrade", which I believe will cost more in the long run.

One of the TVs we have is a very large CRT TV, not easily movable, if at all, and currently connects to the R22 via red, white, yellow RCA composite cables.

The other R22 is connected to a flat screen TV, but currently uses the same red, white, and yellow composite cables to do so, but can use other more modern connections.

We also want all of these TVs still wired and not wireless with any new box or boxes that is/are swapped for any R22.

My questions:

1) What is the best scenario with the above requirements for accomplishing what we want?

Further questions may be redundant, but, here they are.

2) Can the old CRT TV still connect with any newer box required to still see channels--meaning, can it still make use of the red, white, and yellow composite RCA cables?

3) Can the old CRT TV still just use the R22 with those cables, having the other TV have a newer box? (I believe I did read on the forums that with one R22, it can make use of the newer signal as long as there is at least one other new box in the household).

4) What should I ask for in terms of a DVR capable box that will allow us to continue to see channels here, that I will ask for in terms of a swap with at least one R22?

5) Is it correct that we can hold onto at least one R22 as long as we get one newer box?

6) Does the swapping require a switch for our dish and our coaxial cables that we currently use?  We have an 18x20" Triple-sat LNB dish right now.

I might have more questions to follow, but I am hoping to hear back about these concerns.

Thank you so much!

They are on recordings for all instances of freezing I mentioned.

Since it is on recordings it is s likely that whatever DVR the recording is actually recorded on is having issues perhaps with the hard drive and needs replaced. I am making the assumption that you have whole home activated on your system, that is the recordings are shared among the DVRs.

The recordings are all within each unit--R22s are DVRs as is the HR54.

According to weaknees.com you have to use external hard drives if your internal hard drive is going bad.

If I go the route of getting a Genie client with the HR54 in place, which unit to get?  (And which ones to avoid?). (I’m assuming I cannot get another DVR unit to replace the R22 if I have the HR54.)

Thanks for the responses.

All mini clients will work with the HR54 the newest is the C61, using the C41/61W minis will require you to buy the WVB.  HR24s may still be leased from online dealers at the full up front lease fee.
