Rc73 remote will no longer power on or off Samsung tv.

My rc73 remote stopped turning the Samsung tv on or off a week or so ago and it has worked for 5 years fine. Called DIRECTV and they sent me a new remote for $25 and after setting up the new remote… it will not turn the tv on or off. The volume is set to my stereo system. Help! I have done everything and tried every code. Direct tv said I am out of luck and to buy another $4000 tv.

DTV remotes are cheaper online. What is the DTV receiver model number?

The remote isn’t the problem. I have 3 of them.

If you are pairing the remote with the Samsung TV properly this definitely shouldn’t be the issue. What is the receiver model? Have you tried going to Menu, Settings, Program Remote, Program TV, chosen Samsung, chosen correct model or otherwise ‘I don’t know the model’ if nothing shows up, and allowing the receiver to manually find the best code? While the receiver finds the code, you should be pointing the remote directly at the TV.

IF the box does not manually find the best code you will need to do so yourself. Use the instructions onscreen and test each code. Continue testing (this process can definitely be tedious) until one particular code gets the job done.

The CSR was definitely wrong in asking you to buy another TV. That’s a poor solution that I’m sure was reached without first troubleshooting or even attempting to find the root of the problem.

As you’ve tried so many different remotes before, I can only assume it’s either a pairing issue or some sort of issue with the TV’s IR sensor. You should try ensuring that the Samsung TV remote itself works properly. That way, we can rule out the TV itself and focus more on the receiver.

Thanks is for the reply. I have tried all of the above. The remote used to work fine. The CSR said they may have updated my genie box and they Samsung TVs are no longer working with all the Samsung codes. I have tried every Samsung code and other codes found online. My tv remote works perfect.

The receiver is the genie H24 I believe. The receiver works fine. The remote works the reciever. I problem. Just will not power off the tv like it does on my other TVs. Direct tv said “Samsung no longer supported for power on or off”

The H24 is not a Genie. It is a standalone HD receiver. Now, it all makes sense why you are unable to get it to work. The H24 receivers are not to be used with an RC73 remote. You’ll need the RC66RX remote in order to properly pair the remote with the TV.

I’m sorry I was wrong. It is not an h24. It is a HR54/700. And it has worked for years with the rc73 remote so I know it works.

Thanks for the clarification. The HR54/700 is perfectly compatible with the RC73 remote.
What happens if you take a box from another room and bring it in the room of the HR54 to see if it can properly pair with the Samsung TV?

I’m not sure what you mean. My other boxes are hr24 and a wireless mini genie. My mini wireless genie has a rc 73 remote and it’s connected to a separate Samsung tv and the power works fine on that remote. I asked the CSR why and they said that the H54 was “updated and no longer supports that option on that tv” maybe the wireless genie hasn’t been “updated”?

Sorry for the confusion. There is a simple solution to your issue. Bring the wireless Genie client receiver into the room with the HR54. Once the wireless Genie client has booted up and it is properly connected to the HR54 TV, attempt to pair the RC73 remote used on the HR54 with the wireless Genie client rather than the HR54 itself.

So, you are using the wireless Genie client rather than the HR54 to pair the remote with the TV. If you have success, it is simple to just continue using the RC73 (as paired with the Samsung TV) with the HR54 again.

Gotcha! I’m going to try that. I’m just afraid to reprogram the wireless genie box remote as it works my other Samsung tv right now and I don’t want it to stop working. Lol I’ll give that a shot.

Thank for the option to try. I brought the mini wireless into this room and plugged the Samsung tv into it. The hr24 rc73 remote would not even work the mini genie. I paired that remote and got it to work the tv and mini genie. When I went back to the hr54…. I had to re pair the remote to even get it to work the reciever and it will not work the power on the tv again! They are always in RF mode. Grrrrr it isn’t rocket science and I’m great with this stuff. Doesn’t make sense! They had to have updated the hr54.

You don't need a receiver to program the remote. The code for Samsung is 12051. To enter the code press mute and select together for a few seconds until the light on remote double blinks. Press the first digit and pause for a couple seconds then enter the remaining 4 digits. This should program it to control on/off and volume on almost any Samsung TV regardless of whether it is set to IR or RF or what receiver is connected to the TV. If it works on one Samsung TV but not another then there is either an issue with the tv or some kind of IR interference.  Make sure nothing is blocking the IR sensor on the tv. Try holding the remote directly in front of the sensor on the tv and see if it works.

Thank you good4u but that has all been done multiple times with no luck. Tried 42 different codes as well. Direct tv finally said they are sending a new hr24 as they think that is the problem. I don’t think it is but we will see!
