Reciever problem-picture freezes?

While watching a program in real time the picture freezes but the audio continues to move forward. We found it was also happening to recorded shows but if you rewind a few frames it plays again and does not stop in the same place. Once yesterday we could not change channels or turn off the reciever. We unplugged the reciever waited 30 seconds and plugged it back in it worked but was still freezing up. This morning it went to a black screen and there was no audio either.

maybe symptoms of a failing hard drive. 



Run the Built in Self-test (BIST) to try and repair your hard drive. To run the hard drive checks, please follow these steps:

* Reboot DVR via Menu -> Parental, Fav's & Setup -> System Setup -> Reset -> Restart Receiver

* When they see "Running receiver self-check" press select

* You will see "Entering Diagnostics Mode..."

* Select Advanced Tests Menu -> Hard Drive utilities -> Surface Test

* Warning: This process could take several hours to complete. You may want to run it overnight.

The good news is that every attempt is made to save programming. This is less destructive than a reformat all and could provide you with a more stable system if you are having problems that appear to be related to the hard drive.

I'm having the same issue.  Black screen.  I also live in the Austin area.

Best to start your own new thread using the "Create New Post" button on the main forum page.  Your problem may very well be different from the original poster's.    With a new thread you can provide more information about your equipment, location, and troubleshooting you've tried so far.  And this forum software makes it difficult to track or respond to folks that add onto someone else's thread.

Nope, not different from OP, 3 receivers in my house. all freeze, and have reset themselves. DirecTV is having a problem. Charge a ton of money for a service but don't have the technical bandwidth to handle all the new services ready to go on NFL opening day.

 

If its not a nationwide problem, why is there a 10min hold time for customer service...because everyone wants to know where the service is that they paid a ton of money for .....

 

I have reset the receivers myself as well, and have done all the built in tests.   All tests pass,, including satellite signal....its not the receivers, its the service.

 

What's going on DirectTV ???

Same here in orlando we get local stations no problem but NFL Freezes what the hell

I am having a similar problem here in PA, but with no audio. if i reset the receiver everything work fine for 20 seconds or so then the picture just freezes. if I press the guide button the guide comes up but sometimes the guide is sluggish.  I paid $300+ for Sunday Ticket and am stuck watching local team on Cable. Ya it works just fine.

Please read the previous post.  Your problem is NOT the same as the OP's.
