record 2 shows and watch live TV
I spoke with a representative at DirecTV and they assured me, absolutely positive, no doubt because they themselves do it and "this call is recorded so you can be assured I'm going to tell you the truth", that you can in fact record 2 shows on the DVR and still watch live TV (another channel) on the same TV. That implies, if I'm not mistaking, that this is a 3-tuner receiver, right? Is this possible or is it bad information? I'm talking about if TV1 has the HD DVR and TV2 has a standard HD receiver, you can record 2 shows on TV1 AND watch a different channel on TV1 (not previously recorded?).

Absolutely, positively, NOT true. The DVRs have only two satellite tuners, so how could they possibly provide three different channels simultaneously (two recording, one live)?

That's what I thought and I tried to tell them, but they assured me they do it at home. I didn't subscribe to it since everything in me told me he didn't know what he was talking about. I think I'll just get the 2 HD DVRs and no HD receiver and just tie them together. That way I can watch my sports while the wife tapes everything at prime-time. 🙂
