Replacement dish and lnb will not get signal

I have been using a 18x20 oval dish with the 3lnb with older SD receivers.  The setup worked fine until the dish was damaged and had to be replaced.  I set up a new dish and lnb but now I cannot get signal on 101 and 119 satelites, 110 shows 98 percent signal strength.  everything worked fine until the dish was damaged about a month ago.  any suggestions will be appreciated.

Hello @bargeman, we realize it might be upsetting to have a bad signal coming from your dish. We're sending you a DM to investigate further and help you sort this out. Gabriela, DIRECTV Community Specialist

You must replace your SD receivers with newer HD receivers as DIRECTV is shutting down their old SD/MPEG-2 feeds on satellite 101.

On top of replacing your SD receivers, you will also need to purchase a new dish and tripod mount. The dish is called a DIRECTV SWM Slimline HD SL3 dish. The tripod mount has a pole with a measure of 2 inches, compared to the 18x20’s size pole with a measure of 1.66 inches.

Please list your current receiver models that you own. We can provide guidance on what receivers must be replaced free of charge via the “MPEG-2 SD to HD SWAP”. You’d most likely be upgraded from an SD receiver to a Genie client, or you can try to specifically request another standalone receiver (HD) known as the H24 or H25. These are best for customers who choose to take their receivers with them, as standalone HD receivers work without the presence of a Genie HD DVR, which is needed in order for Genie Mini receivers to operate.

Thanks for the comment. But I’m still confused as to why I cannot get signal considering all work well 3 weeks ago.  I know DTV is in the

process of shutting down SD service it is still available in my area. I believe commercial and marine accounts are still SD only. I know of commercial boats that have service (SD) but are using an Intelian marine satellite. Is it possible to use a different dish/lnb set up like a slimline amd still receive SD signal. I

Commercial and marine systems are actively being transferred over to HD in-motion marine dishes as well as stationary Slimline SWM SL3 DIRECTV dishes (and H24/H25 HD standalone receivers).

The 18x20 should still be able to receive satellite 101 and 119 for SD content. Make sure your mast is level, the elevation and azimuth are correct (check this at dishpointer.com), and you have a clear view of the sats (there is an app you can download on your phone to check if the satellite is obstructed).

If you are using a receiver to aim, ensure it has the right settings for an 18x20 dish. This would be MULTISWITCH and 18x20 for SATELLITE option.

Checked all settings and are as they should be for my area. Clear line of site as well. New dish, new lnb, new multi switch (6x8), new cable connections, and still same result. Even tried multiple lnbs (older and new) and still same results. Is there anything else that I could try?  Thanks

What is the receiver model? What are your other receiver models? Have you tried aiming with a different receiver?

1-d12-700, 3-d12-100, and 1-dll-100

i checked multiple receivers and they all show the same thing as far as signal strength goes.  i have not tried aiming with a different receiver though.

i had tried a swm 3 lnb with a power insertor and a  swm8 spliter with the 18x20 dish (i read in another post online this would work).  when all connected to the receivers and using the settings for my area the set up showed 98-99% signal on all the receivers but i still had a 771 error message.

DirecTV is shutting down the MPEG-2/SD-only feeds. Related boxes were stopped from being activated on accounts.

This means any model D or R absolutely must be replaced (except R22 in certain setups as a special hybrid model). Otherwise you plan to go without DirecTV.

The applies to marine/boat setups as well. That would be the Intellian s6HD.

If your setup is a normal residence (permanently placed), then call DirecTV and request a MPEG swap. They will schedule a tech to swap out all obsolete boxes and dish. No cost on order and no 24 month agreement. HD service is credited (indefinitely, but not guaranteed permanent). A direct swap would be H25. But if all they have left are Genie (such as HR54) or Genie-2 (HS17), then prepare for $10 DVR and $3 Whole Home DVR.

Only say MPEG swap, not "upgrade" or mentioning HD or agent might place a normal order which comes with 24 month service agreement and no credit for HD service.

Bottom line it is now the HD era. Just like rotary (pulse) dialing, VCR, audio cassette player, floppy disks, etc. the world has moved on. Either you catch up or just go without. If you do get your old setup working, be aware it can stop again at any time.

You need a 5LNB to get 119 but since it is no longer being used for USA programing it is not needed. The S6HD marine dish is HD and SD compatible, most other in motion dishes are SD only and need to be replaced. DTV is not transitioning anything if the dish doesn't get the HD channels on the 99/103 sats. then the dish needs to be replaced.  It is possible that you are aimed at the 110 sat and not the 101.
