Replacing an HR 22-100 Receiver

My current setup includes a HR44-700 (Genie Gen 2) a HR22-100 (HD DVR) and a wireless Genie Mini.  I like the fact that the HR22 is a standalone DVR with its own HDD drive.  However, it's pretty old and now runs slow. I wanted to replace it but DTV has told me that it now can only be replaced with another Mini.  Can anyone confirm this?  Is there a workaround to keep the second HD DVR?

directv seems to have simply decided not to activate any more hr22s. There are some signs this might only apply to people with RC1 (att) accounts) but there has been no official word from ATT about this. It's just a mess.

I do know the availability of replacement HR DVR’s is very low and you don’t get a warranty replacement for it being slow. Perhaps if you convince them it has failed might make a difference but you already having a genie might mean they won’t replace with anything but a client. I still have an HR22 also and it is also very slow but other than that, still functional. My other receiver is an HR24, so they better replace that HR22 with another DVR when it finally dies.

The NEW D*TV Owners take full control in August --and if your Account is with AT&T (wed site) Your only choice may be a Mini as it looks the the NEW owners won't have access to D*TV older equipment --Try calling 1-800-531-500 and  as for a replacement HR and see if you get the same song

Boxes don't get replaced just for being "slow".

A Mini Genie is a "upgrade" (24 month agreement). But practically it is a downgrade (no tuners or recording space, just an extension of your Genie).

If your receiver stops working, then you order a warranty replacement. This is like for like, so would be a regular HDDVR. The HR24 is the last regular HDDVR that would be in stock.

Per change in equipment direction, and delays in manufacturing of parts because of the pandemic, stock of regular HDDVRs is apparently very low. It has reached the point there have been several posts where someone got their replacement HR24 but could not be activated as the system would not allow it. There has been no official word on if this is the status going forward or a bug in their system. It is concerning either way.

You can try a warranty replacement. If you get a Mini Genie Client (i.e. C61), just send it back. Just be aware that even if you get the proper HR24 it might not be activatable if affected by whatever their issue is right now.
