You have to call DTV first to deactivate it using its RID and access card number then you take it to a UPS/FedEx store with the access card inside and your account info to scan it in and keep the receipt. There is no rental fee.

Call DirecTV to deactivate the box. To verify if returnable or not, what is the model number?

If returnable:

How To Return The Equipment

Go to a FedEx or UPS location with your account #. No need to bring a box or label, the equipment will be boxed it up & shipped out at no charge. The process takes less than 5 minutes.

Find FedEx Office locations at www.fedex.com/attreturns.

Find The UPS Store locations at www.theupsstore.com/locations.

There is no "rental" fee. The $7 is for the authorized TV, even if you don't use a box itself. It stops billing once removed of course.
