Rv
We have a hs-17 direct tv receiver Tower at our home . I am being told I need the h-25 receiver for the direct tv dish we have on an rv we just purchased. If I purchase the h-25 online, how do I get it connected. Heard I will need some type of access code?

No, you can't do that. First, just to state that having receivers in two different places on the same account is against Directv's terms of service so no-one at Directv will help you.
Despite this, many people do what you are suggesting, and move a receiver from home to their RV. However, you can't. Traditional receiversl like the H25 won't work with the hs-17 so you can't add an H25 to an account that has an hs-17. There is no way to do this. Repeat, no way.
To add an H25 you would have to replace the hs-17 with an HR54 or HR44.
Otherwise you would need a second account for the RV. An expensive solution. Or, of course, move to Dish that does not have this restriction.

Unless your RV has a Winegard Travler HD dish all other SD only dishes are now obsolete as DTV is shutting down the MPEG2 channels, the HS17 and the minis will work with the Winegard Travler dish but you will lose all local channels from anywhere when you get outside of your locals spot beam.

Unfortunately the agent gave poor information. Though the H25 can be a good choice for an RV (provided it doesn't have an outdated MPEG-2 setup), you cannot have it as you have the Genie-2 (HS17).
The Genie-2 (HS17) forbids receivers from being on the account. It only allows Clients. So you cannot have a separate box in the RV. This is the big downside of this line of equipment.
If you had a regular Genie (HR34, HR44, HR54) instead, then you could have full receivers. This is more friendly for RV setups. Plus receivers come with their own tuner, or 2 tuners and 500GB recording space if HDDVR (i.e. HR24), unlike Clients which steal a tuner from the Genie as they are just extensions of it. There is no monthly cost difference between Client and Receiver.
