saving recorded shows when upgrading genie

The only way to save recordings is to re-record them or capture them on another device. You can not transfer recordings from one DVR to another.

Recordings do not transfer from any DVR, not even a Genie.
However Genie is the highest level of equipment so curious what do you mean by "upgrade"? What are the models of each box you have and what are you expecting out of an upgrade?
