Screen is no longer formatted
I have 3 HR24 HD DVRs with Whole home DVR set up in the house. Since Saturday (Oct 29) the guide and picture on all three are no longer formatted for a wide screen hdtv. The images are stretched to the point that the guide and menu are cut off the screen.
I have pressed the format button on the remote, but it doesn't change anything. I also have reset the box and still nothing. Occasionally, when I change the channel it will briefly revert back to normal formatting but then it will expand and get distorted again. I have also checked the system set up and it is set for 16:9 and 1080p.
Any help would be appreciated.

I've noticed on my tv you can also change the screen format, can you try that?

Good idea but format only works on SD channels and has no effect on the menu pages.

I believe martini meant to say use the "format" menu on the tv itself. And I believe this is the cure for this problem. It appears that the TV itself has the "zoom" setting on

My Samsung displays HD in 1080? format with Cable at the correct width. HOWEVER, Since the NEW download, all the Pictures are TOO WIDE. I made no changes to the TV and this is happening??? WHY? the Samsung has a 16:9 setting and a "Just Scan" with the "Just Scan" being the prefered setting. This has allways worked before. Now neither works and the Picture is too wide.

Are the DirecTV menus also too wide? If yes, then it's a setting on your HDTV. Try some of the other size/format settings.

Ok, I got the fix. 16:9 would work, in rereading Samsung manual using the Just Scan is the corrrect setting.
The fix was I called Directv for help. Gracious lady from Oregon helped me. The new Menu / guide from Directv had been installed on my HR DVR. I was lead thru the "Setup" options and selected thecorrect settingsas in 1080P and a couple of other things including a guide presentation setting. This Resolved both the too Wide Video screen, and the scrambled Guide issues. Thanks for the Phone Tech Support Direct TV!!!!!
