Service options following a home remodel
We have been remodeling our home the past 6 months. I didn't cancel service or put it on hold during this time, thinking we would lose the current plan or have to start a new contract.
The satelite and equipment have been unhooked from all locations.
Questions:
1. What are the options, if any, for credit on unused months ( Jan - April) if I keep DirectTV satelite service?
2. How much longer does my current contract have left?
3. Will I have to start a new contract if I change plans, for example to streaming TV?
4. Will it cost anything to cancel our current service with DirectTV.
Appreciate your help.

You should probably have asked us about this earlier.
You will not get any refund from directv because they have no way of knowing you were not using the service. To find out when your current contract will end you will have to call directv.
Directv stream is not a new plan. It's a completely different service and has nothing to do with directv satellite. You sign up for the streaming service just like Hulu or any other, and cancel the satellite service by calling directv satellite to cancel.
The cost to cancel the sat service will depend on how many months are outstanding on your contract. Typically it will be $20 per month. There's also a termination fee of $15 I believe.

4. Will it cost anything to cancel our current service with DirectTV.
Depends if on your current status about that -- I would suggest you call 1-800 -531-5000 - and request a service visit and have your current service restored -then see just what your options are.
When you started your remodel -What you should have done is suspend your service for 6 months. Problem solved.
No chance for any credit as D*TV would NOT have known you're not receiving your service.

Suspending service, does not start a new contract. If you have time left on a service agreement, if you suspend then the agreement end date gets pushed back by the same time. Only active service counts towards completing it.
1. There is no such thing as credit for unused months. DirecTV has no way to know you weren't using it. You get a monthly service, regardless of how much you use it. Suspending was your option to avoid those regular monthly charges during that time (max 6 months), but you refused to use the option because of assuming how it worked instead of asking.
2. Call DirecTV to check on your service agreement. Other customers have no access to your account.
3a. Changing plans does not renew your agreement. If you upgrade equipment (adding a TV counts), that comes with a 24 month service agreement. If you have a Movers order (with no upgrade), then it is a 12 month agreement. Some 12 or 24 month discounts come with an agreement for that same time.
3b. Changing to streaming TV, is not changing plans. That is canceling DirecTV and going with a streaming provider. If you mean DIRECTV STREAM, that is completely separate from DirecTV as they are two different providers under the AT&T umbrella.
4. Depends on answer to question 2. If you have time left on a service agreement, it is valued at $20 for each month remaining for how much your Early Cancellation Fee (ECF) would be on your final bill. As a note, DirecTV does not prorate unused days for the service month, so you still pay for the entire bill no matter what day within the cycle you call to cancel.
