Slowness when switching from recording to live TV

Our receiver is a Genie Gen 2, Model HR44-700.  Lately, when watching a recorded program, and trying to switch back to live TV, it is agonizing slow.  The screen will go black, and we can't get the guide to come up or change channels.  Sometimes I can fix it by rebooting my internet router and reconnecting the Genie to our internet.    Are there other solutions?  I can reboot the Genie, but that doesn't always solve it either.

Usually resetting the Genie DVR will help. Rather than using the reset button try pulling its power for a minute and repowering.  If that doesn't help, then it needs to be replaced.

No idea why rebooting you internet sometimes fixes it as DTV sat doesn't use the internet for anything but On Demand, start from the beginning and paying for PPV using the remote.

DirecTV is from satellite, with recordings physically saved on the DVR, so rebooting your internet router should have no influence on that.

However, if you are watching something from On Demand (including restart from the beginning, or Signal Saver), that is content from the internet.

All I can think of is something is hogging resources with On Demand updating in the background or you are downloading something from On Demand at the same time that is slowing it down. That or an issue with your router causing a bad communication to the DirecTV box resulting in the same issue.

How is your box connected to the internet?

Do any of your other boxes connect directly to your router instead of receiving that info from the Genie?
