Sound problems with new large direct tv receiver
I got a new large direct tv receiver a couple months ago and it squeaks, croaks, and makes frog-like sounds. It does this a lot!

Which model did you receive and what other receivers do you have? Those sounds either mean a bad fan, bad hard drive, etc.

There are only two moving parts in your HS17 .... hard drive and cooling fan. Sounds like it's defective. Call DirecTV at the number below and request a replacement.

Just a note, those are Mini Genie Clients, not receivers. They have no tuners of their own. Each takes one from the main Genie, as they are just extensions of it. The main box goes down, then they go with it.
Since you have the Genie-2 (HS17), which is the Headless Server tower, you cannot have any other recievers on the account. Call DirecTV and get that warranty replaced ASAP so you minimize any time without TV.
