DTV has had that for 30 years but only with their HXX receivers.

Did not know that, but need to add it to all of their receivers

People have been asking for it for 20 years hasn't happened.

Not gonna happen. Just setup a recording for anything you want to "autotune".

DirecTV has had Autotune for decades. However it is only on their non-DVR receivers. They have not had a single box capable of both Autotune and DVR. Their position has been you can record to watch on your schedule, as tuning to a show doesn't guarantee the viewer is ready.

So having both DVR and Autotune capability on a single box is a setup DirecTV has consistently avoided.

Thanks for all the comments. Recording something is not the same a auto-tune.  This seems like such a simple feature to ad, not unless it is another Dish Network exclusive and then we will need to wait until Dish buys or merges with DirecTV, which will need to happen soon for them both to survive.

DirecTV's interface is so old and hasn't had a refresh in years and could really use a nice new update.

Yes recording and Autotune are not the same. However, I find DVR superior. I don't have to force myself to be at the TV when Autotune kicks in, I just record it. If I arrive to the show late, then I just go to the start of the recording.

Sure having both would be nice, but if it is one or the other, I will take DVR every time.

DirecTV's interface has been updated. But only models HR44 and newer get the new one as they only work on the new system. Older boxes that work on the old system (or 1st generation Genie, HR34), stay on the old interface.

I've never missed having Autotune. It's so much more convenient to setup recordings and watch those shows on my schedule, not theirs.
