Too many recordings message: genie
I have a Genie hr-44. I have 3 clients and an Hd dvr, 21-200. I’ve been having a lot of issues when wanting to watch a recorded program from the genie. I will get the too many recordings being watched when I am the only one watching offf the genie. I will reset the genie box and that will temporarily fix the problem. But it always comes back. Any ideas

Are you the only one at Home when that happens? The 44 has 5 tuners (when) any of the Clients are watching Live TV - (that Action) takes a Tuner away from the genie- Only one program from the play list -can be Streamed from the 44 at a time.
The Hr-21 has 2 tuners - When you get the Warning again - I suggest you try rebooting the HDDVR first to see if that changes anything - If your problem continue's I would call -1-800-531-fro a service visit .

There is a tuner conflict somewhere in the chain. The HR21 shouldn't affect this as it has its own tuners not shared by the others. Since a reset of the Genie (HR44) is a temporary fix, that narrows it down. First make sure the coax is finger tight in all the boxes. Do a red button reset on the Genie, but when that completes do the same on each Client. This is to make sure they are in sync regarding tuner usage. After all that you could certainly do the same with the HR21 on the small chance the outgoing shared stream is part of the issue.
If still an issue at that point, then I would say the HR44 is the issue (since resetting it does a short term fix). Call DirecTV for a warranty replacement which is just $19.95 delivery (covered if you have their optional equipment protection plan). Service call ($99) would only be needed if they think it is the connection between the boxes not transferring info correctly. Recordings from the DVR will not transfer to the replacement, so suggested to be caught up first.
I am glad to see you have that full HDDVR instead of a 4th Client, since the Genie can only use 3 Clients as most. Since each takes 1 tuner from the Genie to work, and they rely on it for all their information, I would suggest when you have your next free upgrade to replace on with an HDDVR. Not only 2 tuners like your HR21, but since then they now have a larger hard drive (500GB since HR22). The last regular HDDVR made is the HR24 which would be the only one in stock until they are out (DirecTV has moved solidly to the Genie type setup where the next line of equipment only allows Clients).

I am not home alone when it is happening but I know no one else is watching tv or has a box on. I’ve checked numerous times when it happens.
I will do as suggested and try rebooting first the hd dvr and then resetting the main genie and boxes. I am hoping that clears up any tuner conflict issues.
Im really hoping this fixes it because my genie is chock full of goodies. Why is this happening right after Shark Week. Lol

Well hopefully a shark didn't swim down the line and bite a tuner.
Seriously though, really do hope the reset of the Genie followed by the Clients fixes it. Just make sure the Genie has finished before you do the Clients. If that doesn't stick, then I still lean to the box being an issue. Warranty replacement is fairly easy, and certainly way cheaper than a service call.
