Tuner missing? HR54-700 whole home w/ 2 minis (off)
as I understand it there are 5 tuners available with this system. when I try to change a channel with tuners being 4 recorded, I get the following message “Live tv tuner was taken by GENIE ...yesterday? - System shows one tuner “unassigned” but when you try to use that one it returns “this tuner has become unavailable” and returns to the previous message.
is it just me and I never noticed it before? Or is it a PIP thing I need to turn off? Double play? Seems stuck somewhere

Try a red button reset on the HR54. With only two minis using two tuners and the HR54 using one with all TVs on a live channel there are still 2 tuners left to record or for PIP. Recording 4 programs at the same time leaves 1 tuner for any TV to watch live TV.

Genie is 5 tuners. Of those, 2 are kept for the Genie itself because of PiP. That leaves up to 3 remaining to run Clients or record.
Verify coax finger tight to all boxes. Red button reset the Genie, then once finished do the same for all Mini Genie Clients. That should clear up any issue of a tuner being stuck.
Suggested to use next free upgrade to replace a Mini Genie with a HDDVR. Instead of stealing a tuner from the Genie, you gain 2 independent tuners and 500GB recording space. What is recorded is still shareable of course. No difference in monthly cost, so more bang for your buck with increased reliability.

Thanks juniper - so can I turn off PIP so that I can record 4 and watch a 5th live? (All mini’ s off - watching the main tuner)

Unless in use PIP is off, all 5 turners are available.

Shannon - that’s the issue - 4 tuners currently recording - watching one of them - can not change channel - s system states (see original post)
I believe I used to have 5 tuners available (record 4 watch 5th) but that is not possible. Trying to figure out what “live tuner taken by GENIE yesterday at 5:22”
