Turn in old equipment from previous home owner

I need to remove an old DirectTV Slimline satellite dish installed by a previous home owner in my back yard.  Could not find any disposal instructions on DirectTV's website.  Does DirectTV want this equipment returned or do I attempt to recycle it prior to taking it to the landfill.

We will be happy to lead you in the right direction, @ranley53

Thank you for your interest in returning an old satellite dish. At this time, @skeeterintexas is correct. AT&T does not require the return of the dish; once the installation is complete, the dish is owned by the customer as outlined in our customer agreement.

As far as recycling, be sure to check your state's e-waste requirements prior to taking it to the landfill. Under the State Electronics Law section, it has an interactive map and state by state specifics on e-waste handling.

Let us know if this information was useful.

DirecTV doesn't want it.  Once installed, the dish becomes part of the property.

Either google on how to 'repurpose' a satellite dish or call some local recyclers for advice.

Only receiver/client boxes are owned. Everything else, including receiving dish is owned upon install.

Dish itself is metal recycling. The LNB (the "eye") goes with electronics. Just check with local recycling/e-waste centers for guidance.

If it is installed with a mounting plate on a roof or such, leave the plate to avoid leaks.
