Two Genie 2's on same LAN network?
So I have a client who has 15 tv's each with a dtv wired client. He has two dishes, two accounts and two genie 2's. Seperate Moca networks.
As per my discussions with a veteran DTV tech that helps me with these large installs he has told me that I can't connect two genie 2's to the same LAN network. I'm not sure I believe him, he is the best dtv installer I've ever worked with but I don't think he knows jack (Edited per community guidelines) about networks outside of getting them online, which is totally OK btw.
Well my client went off and connected the downstairs genie which was not supposed to have an internet connection to wifi. My upstairs system does have a wired LAN connection for IP control. I didn't know he did this and we we playing with his setup and found that we had the downstairs playlist on the upstairs genie.
My question is, can we "actually" connect both to the network? Has anyone experienced adverse operations after doing this? What are the adverse effects if any?
Thanks all!

Ok, My parents and Aunt Live in the Same Duplex, when they started adding Genies and Minis to their system, after tech installed 2nd genie on ants account, issue came up the The dish Could not Support more than 8 Tuners at any given time. Different TV or Show were not being recorded, later tech installed 2nd dish and Resolved this issue.
Recently the issue that bring me to this forum was while staying in the House while they all were away power went out. Mini in one one side kept asking for pin after Trying to repair the mini, Some how the Thought occurred to me many Aunts DVR was responding to the Pair Request. Unplug hers and Parents repaired automagicly on there own. Now aunts wont connect to theirs, OK so i go unplug parents and they to repair. now parents off line again. this last time i went in to my network switch and disabled the network port for aunts Genie and now parents are working, after enabling switch port all is well again.
So as i under stand, yes the two genies fight to respond to pairing request, you'd think the internal routing form Ethernet to MOCA would stop this apparently it does not. but unplugging Ethernet on one allow all to pair be happy and share recording once reconnected.

All I can say is you'll having nothing but continued problems with two Genie's and wireless clients that close to each other. There is no good solution for wireless clients. They both need to request wired clients. Even if one goes wired and the other wireless, the wireless clients will still try to connect to wrong genie. There is nothing you can do.
Directv updated their specs you can now only have 7 receivers. The genie 2 officially counts as a receiver even though we can plug it to a tv. I had a 30 min fight with att on this last week and they didn't budge. Eventually confirmed it with an I stall tech I trust and work with a lot.

Tech shouldn't have been able to activate a 2nd "Genie" on the same account. In any case, you were setup for failure on that. I would submit a BBB complaint on that install.
If you have the regular Genie line (HR34, HR44, HR54 or revised HR54R1), replacing Clients with HDDVRs would be the best option, though replacing wireless Clients with wired versions would be cheaper up front as the one-time lease cost is $99 per Client and $199 per HDDVR (when you don't have a free upgrade for a box).
In the end, DirecTV Genies were not designed to work together. So having 2 like your family does will be ongoing issues.
New account system has an 8-device limit. The Genie-2 (HS17) is the receiver (not a client) and does not go on a TV (as is a server tower unlike traditional receivers) but is counted towards the 8 devices. This is one of several reason I do not approve of that model. And for a while it even counted towards the TV fees until they finally (supposedly) fixed that billing bug.

Did they ever change out the LNB -to a newer LNB that will support 21-Channels?
because they 2 different accounts (using the same Dish) they can have 2 genie's (one on each account)
what you can do because they share the same home internet network --using your router -you can config local access for one of the genie's by denying file sharing.
Perhaps a better way to explain it -split the internet access (isolate) the two genies -or add another router for the other household. That will resolve the network conflict
Whenever they lose power again -they will have the same issues with the clients.

If they are on separate networks then of course they can't share their playlists.

@jahoneycutt I suppose we all missed some parts of this thread. You missed my update where I did about the same thing as you by putting each Genie on its own seperate LAN. Only difference is all my clients are hard wired. When we lose power they boot up and connect to the correct genie. No matter how we tried wireless clients always screwed up on power cycles.

@Txavguy2021 yes mine are hard wired to as eluded to by "disabled the network port" for one at the network rack, i truly believe if it has a port wire it. but you know sisters they want to share. and this was my story and how i had to deal with power outage.
