TWO HR24 DVR'S AND TWO REMOTES

i have two HR24's ......setting on top of each other but separated by a thick glass shelf, and the distance between the two is about one foot....my wife likes to record LOTS of shows.....each HR24 has a remote control.....is there a way to program each remote so it ( the remote ) will only work with one receiver.???.........right now,  each remote turns on/off both receivers....i need the remotes to be independent....is that possible ???...........thanks !!!!

Yes you can program the remote to the dvr in av1 or av2 modes dtv mode will control 1 and av1 or av2 mode the other one.

I tried this to but after following the on-screen instructions the box would not operate with the remote or any other remote.

So I have no clue what I'm missing. I have to use the controls on the front of the HR24 to set it back.

setting to rf mode is two stage process, first the receiver, that where you are stopping, then the remote.

once the receiver no longer communicates with remote, then you follow up be doing the following on the rf remote:

1. dtv

2. press and hold MUTE & SELECT, wait for two blinks, release

3. enter 0 0 0 0 1

4. press and hold MUTE & SELECT, wait for two blinks, release

5. enter 9 6 1

6. press CH UP

7. enter the last 6 digits of the Receiver ID #(RID), found on a sticker in the access card compartment

8. press SELECT

this is what  i would like to have:.....i want to use both remotes----not just one remote....my wife isn't going to like switching just one remote between " dtv " mode and "av1 "......so how about this setup:-----------one remote is set on "av1" and that remote will only control one receiver as long as the remote remains on " av1 "......the other remote would then be on "av2" and that remote would only work the other receiver........tell me that this would work !!!!!!!!.................................................thanks for all the help !!!!!!!!!

I followed your instructions to the letter and then the On-Screen version and it just dosen't want to work, Thanks for the great instructions but I guess the receiver just won't work in RF mode (HR24-200) I even have the new remote (RC65X) . I been a D* member since 97 and they still do this 2 year thing everytime you change a piece of equipment. I hope they take it back...

tivoburkee:

I followed the steps you listed:

1. dtv

2. press and hold MUTE & SELECT, wait for two blinks, release

3. enter 0 0 0 0 1

4. press and hold MUTE & SELECT, wait for two blinks, release

5. enter 9 6 1

6. press CH UP

7. enter the last 6 digits of the Receiver ID #(RID)

8. press SELECT

After following Steps 1 thru 8, the remote does not control the HR24 receiver at all.  Pressing "Menu", "Guide", or "Info" button does nothing.

So I had to reset the remote by just doing Steps 1 to 3.

Question - what does the 961 in Step 5 represent?  Is that the code for the remote?

I'm using the Universal Remotes that DirecTV sent me for the HR24s.  I don't know what the model number is but the back of them have an FCC ID of MG32993.

Do I have to use another number in Step 5 for the remotes that I have?

@shannon02 , thanks.  The model number for the remotes is RC68RX.

Can these be programmed to be linked to only one receiver?

You can leave one in IR and change the other to RF

@shannon02

That's a workaround.  Is there a way to marry a remote to a particular receiver?

For the (old) Hughes SD-DVR40 DirecTivo receivers, you could set the remote to a particular receiver by setting a remote ID on the receiver, then setting the remote to only work with a particular remote ID.

I'm trying to do the same thing with these RC68RX remotes.

Yes there is a way for two IR remotes to control separate receivers I think the directions are under Advanced remote setup.

Best to start a new thread in situations like this. As this thread is from 2011, there is always risk of outdated info with such an ancient thread.
