UPDATE: How to add MRV if you're using your own networking (not DECA)
Thanks to Doug Brott at DBSTalk for clarifying these exact instructions to help you walk the CSR through the process of activating MRV on your account when you're using your own networking equipment.
NOTE: If you are ordering DECA/SWiM, DO NOT follow this procedure. Simply order DECA/SWiM and MRV will work out the way it's supposed to.
This procedure is for those folks who want to use their own home networking and continue to enjoy Multiroom viewing.
* Call 1-800-531-5000
* Give Your Phone # when prompted
* At the main menu voice prompt say "Whole Home DVR Service"
* At this point you should be connected to an agent
* Tell the agent that you have been participating in the 'Whole Home DVR Service beta' and you want to enable 'MRV-Capability' so that you can activate 'Whole Home DVR Service' on your account
* Ask the CSR to cancel (or do not enter) the Whole Home DVR upgrade screen
* Ask the CSR to enter 'Account Attributes' and choose 'Create New'. The only option here is 'MRV-Capability' and it should be set to 'u' (for unsupported) with mostly defaults. At this point, you have enabled the 'MRV' flag and you could (in theory) order from the web page. I saw it when viewing my account via the web.
* Once this has been set, the CSR will have to exit your account information and then reenter your account information screen so that the information refreshes.
* At this point, the CSR can now enable "Whole Home DVR Service"
If you can politely get the CSR to follow through this process I am confident that you will be set up for MRV. It took me 30 minutes working with the CSR to get to this point, but I would expect most any CSR to be able to work through this with you in less than 10 minutes. It's a pretty fast process if you know how to do it, so help the CSR out and you'll both be much happier.

I just got off the phone with my second CSR, I may have a new situation unless someone else can refute that. The CSR told me that in my situation: 1 HD DVR, 1 HD, & 1 SD box, that DTV system will not let her allow MRV to be activated for use on my own network, because of the one remaining SD box. She says the only option is to upgrade because that box will be swapped and thus allow the system to recognize all HD network boxes. I told her that was strange because I had the SD box during the beta period and just did not include that in my viewing.

Not true, SD boxes, if SWM compatable, will work with DECA and home networks. With a home network (non DECA) the SD box isn't even involved. It appears that we would all be better off simply signing up for DECA. Now that I think about it, why don't we? I spend thousands on TV, Directv, BluRay etc etc, what's another $150?

I'll tell you why. I feel much more comfortable using my existing network instead of implementing a secondary one. I have control over this. On top of everything else is the price. not everyone can fork out 150 at the drop of a hat.
Also why fix what ain't broke?

I also own an old R15 receiver and was able to activate MRV with my own network (guiding the CSR, step by step).
Works perfectly and is one of the best features of the DTV installation!

There is no tool called account astributes that the CSR uses. Where in the world are you getting your information? To order upgrades they use a system called order management. And if you tell the CSR to do that it will most likely aggrevate them. Cause it is acting like you know how to do their job and they don't.
Just my two sense 🙂

I must be a success story using Apple Airport extreme routers Airport express bridges running @300MBs. It can work if you configure it correctly.
I am also using Airport Extreme router and Airport Express bridges. MRV has worked from day 1, no problems.
(I will be attempting the email activation process later today. Thanks to all for the advice.)

Just got off the phone...no problems whatsoever. The original CSR transferred me over to the neworking dept. saying they handled all of the MRV beta and they activated the service without even offering me DECA. No mention of needing any upgrade by any of them.
Just checked my account online, says activated. All is working well.
For information...I'm running 3 HD DVR's (one connected wirelessly) with two coax to each, and one SD TIVO. No SWM.

good luck with getting this activated without the DECA modules. I have been thru 6 CSR's and none of them have a clue other than to order the whole DECA and a new SWM-8 package (which I don't need either! It's working just fine on the beta trial!). Oh well. At this point im about to give up on the whole MRV feature....it's not worth the hassle and I am not willing to pay $150.00 for the DECA's and install, when I don't need them!
Just take a break and try an E-mail or Twitter (Don't even know what that is). A lot, if not all of the people who already got it activated are having to go through it again. Wish they would put out the message to all CSRs that they can activate home networks.

I was going to email, but I decided to try calling. I told the CSR I wanted to activate Whole House DVR Service, that I was a beta tester, and that I wanted to use my home network. She knew exactly what to do, did not try to sell me DECA, and had it activated in about 30 seconds. I had to restart one of my H21s. The only drawback was being on hold for almost 30 minutes, but I expected that.
BTW, my beta test had stopped working sometime this afternoon. A message came up that said beta testing is over, more information to follow. It did not say to call, or even that WHDS is available!
my setup:
HR22-100
(2) H21-100s
Airport Extreme base station
(2) "bridged" Airport Express

The deca is not 300.00. The MRV is 99.00 and what you get with that is a MRV compatible receivers if you do not have any which are HR20's and higher, upgraded to a swm system from multiswitch, and a deca. If you have all of this and they insists you still pay an upgrade charge tell them no you do not and make them read Dorris which is like the CSR's Bible. Tell them to look up whole room viewing and it will tell them to add it under account astributes (read from dbs that does exist i stand corrected) then they have to select MRVCompatible---Y. Then from there they can add whole room viewing to your account. A deca is not required if you want to continue to do it the internet way and use on demand. They will be amazed that you know more than them.

slimelines4u,
In your forums User Profile your list of areas of expertise is impressive, but your advice in your posts thus far does not accurately reflect all of that extensive technical know-how. Based upon the post you just made referring to DORIS and addition of the account "astributes"...may I quote your earlier reponse to my posting that same instructions:
"There is no tool called account astributes that the CSR uses. Where in the world are you getting your information? To order upgrades they use a system called order management. And if you tell the CSR to do that it will most likely aggrevate them. Cause it is acting like you know how to do their job and they don't.
Just my two sense :)"
Then as you subsequently share your knowledge(that has been posted 100's of times in this forum by me and others) where you now say "deca is not required if you want to continue to do it the internet way and use on demand"...may I again quote a previous post by you:
"A swm and deca is required for whole room DVR. And no the customer is not always right as in this case where you are very wrong. They are propably having a chuckle that you think you know more than they do and they are DirecTV"
Your posting of advice followed by the exact opposite advice could tend to confuse other users regarding your level of technical expertise and whether they should follow your advice. I suggest you carefully consider the results for the user of following the advice you post on the forums if your intent is to help others, as I am sure it is.
