Upgrade from mini genie to genie 2

how much is it to upgrade to a genie 2 so I can have 5 TVs run at same time. I had the extra receiver installed and to find out that I can not run all 5 TVs, which they didn’t tell me when I made appointment or when technician installed it, I had to find out when I went to use it.

I would appreciate that, I really just need the cost to do so, or approximately how much. Unfortunately the office is closed

It's the icon on the top right, that looks like the "balloon" that holds text in a comic strip.... left of the bell...

Yeah, they do it so often, they don't even say "Direct Messaging" or where the icon is on the screen.

You don't upgrade a mini to an HS17 Genie2. The HS17 Genie2 is the main server everything else are the mini clients.  Could be free if it has been 2 yrs since you last upgrade.  IIRC the up front cost to lease an HS17 is $399.

You cannot upgrade from a Mini Genie to the Genie-2. This is because you can only a single main Genie on the account.

Sounds like you have the regular Genie (HR34, HR44, HR54) which because it keeps two tuners to itself (for Picture in Picture), only 3 Clients can be in use. So Genie and 3 Clients means 4 TVs total at the same time. Always hated agents/techs who would just install a 5 TV setup without properly educating the customer.

The Genie-2 (HS17) doesn't go on a TV. It feeds only clients. So you would need it and a Client. This is 7 tuners, no PiP, which means all 5 of your TVs could be in use at one time. It does have a 2TB hard drive compared to the 1TB of the regular Genie.

Alternatively, you could replace one Mini Genie with a HD non-DVR receiver (1 tuner and Autotune) or an HDDVR (2 tuners and 500GB recording space). That way you don't lose what you've already recorded. Plus you have the benefit of a dedicated receiver. Because if the main Genie goes down, all Clients go down but other receivers still work. And the Genie-2 forbids other recievers.
