Upgrade letter from DirecTV

Just received a letter from Directv saying I will loose my local channels starting 1/7/2020 on some of my equipment and that I must upgrade.  Does that mean my Genie and Mini have to be upgraded (they're both about 3 years old).  I'm presently receiving local channels but they're not HD on the Genie and Mini.  I also have a H24 and round dish on the RV and they only pick up the 101 and 119 SD satellites so I don't think it will be receiving the local channels on the HD 103 and 99 satellites starting on 1/7/2020..  I'm concerned now that my existing Genie and Mini wont pick them up either.  Is that true or not?

Your Genie and mini are fine and actually the H24 is fine, I’m pretty sure it’s the round dish that needs upgrading and possibly the dish connected to the Genie. What sort of dish do you have connected to the Genie?

DirecTV as of April 2019 started shutting down the old MPEG-2 (SD only) feeds. Going forward we all need MPEG-4 (SD and HD capable) equipment.

All DirecTV models that are High Definition are MPEG-4. So your Genie, Mini Genie Client, and H24 are fine and would expect that you have a slimline HD dish at home which is MPEG-4. Unless you have any other boxes on the account that are older, it is unusual you would have gotten the email since your equipment is compatible.

The receiving dish on your RV however, being the old round dish is MPEG-2 only. Your RV setup will need to be updated. DirecTV's complimentary swap program only covers standard install at home. So the RV you will have to pay to update through a 3rd party RV installer.

Sandblaster.  Just check the menu and setup section.  It says the dish is a "sl5", RB/INT "none selected" and the switch type is "swm lnb 8 ch".  BTW, why don't I get my local channels in HD, they're all SD.  My ota tv gets the same local channels but all are HD.  I'm also getting, according to the menu, satellites 99, 101,103 and 119

It depends if the channels provide the HD feed to DirecTV. I would verify www.directv.com/locals to see if any are supposed to have an HD feed through DirecTV.

Sounds like your home dish and equipment are fine. You may be getting your locals in both SD and HD. If you have a filter on your channels, you possibly just selected the SD channel, not the HD channel.

Juniper. I check the
www.directv.com/locals site and it
said yes, local HD channels are available in my area but nothing
about how to add them. I have the Choice package and all HD
equipment but locals are still in SD.

Sandblaster,

No other local channels to choose from.  I've gone through the guide list from top to bottom (which took awhile), and no other locals there, just the SD channels.  Most everything else is HD.
