I have HR54-500 model 2016. Is there an upgrade or just the same ?

No need for an upgrade. The only upgrade is an HS17 but that isn’t necessary if you are fine with your current equipment. Technically, most don’t even call the HS17 an ‘upgrade’, but rather a replacement receiver. Trust me, you’ll be better off with your current equipment because it allows for the support of more recording receivers like the HR24 and standalone boxes that can be taken with you when you camp or go on a RV trip.

The only benefit an HS17 has is support for 7 clients at the same time (but the most amount of clients you can have on an account are 8). Therefore, if you have more than 8 TVs, HS17 isn’t the way to go. Also, the HS17 itself has 2TB of recording space while the HR54 has 1tb. Though, with the HR54, you can activate multiple HR24 receivers which increases available tuners and storage by a lot more than a standard HS17 and clients.

The HR54 is the 3rd generation Genie, which is the highest level of equipment.

Technically there is the Genie-2 (HS17), but is a Client-only setup so is restrictive for many of us becomming a downgrade instead.

Is that your only box or do you have others? Why are you asking about an upgrade? Do you have issues currently?

Got what you meant from "2 mini 4k", but thank you for expanding for others who come upon the thread. No need to put in bold as easily readable.

If HR54 and two C61K is all you have, then you are unique as there is an upgrade to consider.

HR54 only supports one TV at a time using a 4K channel, no matter how many C61Ks you have. The Genie-2 (HS17) supports up to two at a time. It also has a 2TB drive along with 7 tuners, compared to the 1TB and 5 tuners of you HR54.

As the Genie-2 is a Headless Server tower, it doesn't go on a TV itself. Your HR54 would be replaced by a Mini Genie. Compared to your setup, the downside is you lose the Picture in Picture (PiP) feature as Clients can only use a single tuner each.

If you don't plan to put full receivers/HDDVRs on your other TVs (more tuners and recording space), instead valuing the 4K content (limited at this time as early days), then the Genie-2 would be an upgrade. Just make sure to be caught up on your recordings first as they do not copy from the replaced box.

Thanks for your technical knowledge on the upgrade. I guess I will stay as is. The bold was a cut and paste. :)
