very specific issues with RC73 remote programming
OK, I have a really specific question, so please read this simple, yet complex problem
I have a Geni Mini in my garage, it serves up several TV's in different rooms, none in the garage.
I will be using several remotes all RC73.
First issue: the furthest TV is running RF. I see that unlike dumb remotes, these are "paired" in RF mode (so I assume only one remote can be paired). Reception is spotty, so sometimes you need to move around a bit and try a couple times to change channels etc.
The question is: is the TV on/off emitted by IR from the remote (once programmed), or is the Geni mini involved? Right now having issues trying to complete the "programming", and really would like the good old fashioned "enter code" on the remote by itself.
So another path is a way to program the RC73 standalone for the TV, but all the stuff for the older remotes does not seem to work.
There are many reasons why I cannot change to IR for this situation, nor get better RF reception (spent yesterday moving the Genie mini around)

First try did not work, picking up a second RC73 and trying to pair it on RF failed, it never came back.
At first glance it seems that once a remote is paired, you cannot pair a second remote. I'm going to experiment more.
If I still cannot pair the 2nd remote, I'll unpair the first and then try the second. If that works, then it's pretty apparent you cannot pair a second RF remote.
That said, I've got options to have more IR remotes, and your tip on entering codes may help also.
Will keep trying.

When you pair a remote with a receiver it just programs that remote to work with that box and you can do that with as many remotes as you want. It does have to have a line of sight for the pairing process though. How exactly are you attempting to pair it?

Asking "why in the garage" was NOT sniping. Feeding all TVs in the home, none in the garage, made that a very honest question. I do apologize for responses not narrowing down enough through the thread. We were just confused on your setup and wanted to be on the same page in case any misunderstanding might have affected how the options worked.
When asking in help in this forum it is suggested to post the details of the setup in this forum. Requesting others go to 'your' website can be perceived as directing users to a scam or just using it to advertise. Not saying that was your intention, just a caution since some may be hesitant to risk it and the moderators are not always fans of linking outside sites.
As for refusing to post results in the forum you asked for help on and just putting on your site instead, never mind the earlier concerns mentioned, comes off as a bit petty (in my opinion). We are here to help each other. Yes we are not perfect being human and all, and again I am sorry that the focus of the responses were not what you are looking for, so please do not withhold results that may be helpful to other users.

Thanks Juniper.
I was trying to hold off flooding the thread with my details, as mentioned in the first post I have a complex setup, and as these things go, why in the garage is then opening to what kind of HDMI streamer I have, how I backfeed my old cable plant (which terminates in the garage), etc. what about this, that and the other.
Honestly it's hard enough to get people on the topic, notice the guy who recently asked about his remote, and the first official post was nowhere near answering his simple question.
Umm, but worrying about my web site? If you google my name, you will see that I have a website with a lot of information for various hobbies, most of which is my garden trains.
When I google someone and see a bunch of helpful stuff, and then the site itself has a hit count almost 20 million, and there are NO advertising or trackers (cannot say that for this site), people who want to be paranoid about other sites, and are not capable of at least a basic google of "greg elmassian", unfortunately will have to remain paranoid.
Anyway, thank you for your explanation, and clarifying your intent.
Back to my issue, I had one IR repeater in the loop when trying to pair the second remote. I will do it "in person", just have to move a TV to the garage temporarily. It's on the wall with all the other home electronics (home automation, power transfer, light control, sprinkler control, etc.).
Will report back, will be very happy to have several remotes. Again just 2 people and a cat and the cat does not get to change channels.

I've been looking through my old notes about the RC7X series changing to IR only, but all I found was setting to RF. It is odd the information only showing changing one-way. I would definitely suggest testing with a TV at the box so you can verify with the direct connection.
Since IR is a two-way street, what was the model number of that receiver or client box you're trying to get this to work with? (and if a client, which model main Genie do you have? can matter as has some control over how the client functions, especially if any issues bleed over). Keeping it as basic as I can to keep it focused on the issue.
I wasn't worried about your website. Just mentioning how that can come across in this forum, as every so often it gets people faking posts just to spam/scam. Certainly not saying that was what you were doing, but it is something that has gotten the moderators to respond on many occasions. So was just a caution to avoid any removal or such by one of them playing on the safe side.

All RC73 remotes are preprogrammed to control the mini and the minis are made to control 1 TV so trying to have one mini trying to set up multiple TVs IR codes on different remotes may not be possible. Your remotes maybe outside the RF range to control the mini.

You actually don't need a TV in the garage to pair the remote. Just take the remote out where it has a direct line of sight and press and hold mute and enter for a few seconds until the light blinks several times (the mini of course has to be on). Go back to where you have the TV and you should see the message confirming your remote is set to rf.

Got 2 RV73's paired, and was able to keep each one programmed for a separate TV.
There is no TV in the garage but the Genie mini was there, so you really want feedback. It's not an issue, I just took a laptop out there, which was streaming to my network, and used a video player.
So now I have 2 major areas of viewing handled, both are RF, and about 25-35 feet from the Genie Mini.
Now the last viewing area is about 40 feet, so am going to try wireless IR extenders for this one, but also want to program it for the TV volume and mute, and that will be fun, that TV is mounted to a wall bracket.
The first goal is extending the IR that far, so wish me luck.
Thanks for confirming multiple RF pairings.

I was just thinking having TV at the Genie Mini, so all communication was direct without repeaters, splitters, etc. Best to test at the most basic intended setup and expand from there. Plus you don't have to do weird things to point out the window, door, etc. to get IR to work to the Client if you are looking at a TV in another building (still doing a direct communication, not through repeaters and such).

Yeah, it would be easier for sure... but got it done by switching to RF for 2 remotes by being in garage LOS to the Genie. Once switched to RF, then go in the house and set the TV setting at the TV (since now the RF is working). Not moving 50 and 65 inch TVs to the garage. This was no big deal.
got the IR "relay" working for the room 40 foot away and on the 2nd story. Daisy chained 2 IR repeater systems to get the distance. But not sure about the TV programming yet. May have universal IR remote there, that can easily programmed for directv and the local tv.
Also found unwanted result... since the Geni Mini may be viewed from different rooms, the power on works fine, but power off turns off the TV AND the Genie mini... not great, but progress, could watch and follow the Forumla 1 races from all rooms today. there are 6 tvs active at virtually all times, and that does not count those streaming over the internal network from my HDMI streamer.
Getting in the land of the acceptable.
