Voice command

Is there a directv box that allows for voice commands? Directv tends to monopolize elderly facilities and the majority of residents do have a disability. Could this be a disability lawsuit since Directv is not accommodating this segment of the population?

DTV doesn't do installs in MDU (Multi Dwelling Units) that is done by MDU installers.  DTV now has the C71WK mini client that has a voice remote. It is not just DTV that didn't have voice remotes.

Hi there. We want to offer our customers the best services no matter what! We do count with a Voice remote control. The remote comes with the Gemini device and will not work on other Genie receivers. With this feature, you can use your voice to change channels, search for shows, control devices, and more – just ask Google! At the following links, you can find more information about this: https://www.directv.com/support/satellite/article/000091378, https://www.directv.com/support/satellite/article/000091356. DIRECTV hopes you continue enjoying the best programming! ☺️Luisa, DIRECTV Community Specialist

So do I ask for a Gemini unit at my Moms facility?

You can try but it is unknown if the MDU that maintains the system is using them yet or if they will work with their system.  In order for the voice remote to work there also needs to be an internet connection.

You can ask them for the Gemini device. We're continually enhancing our customers' experience and with the Gemini, you'll have the latest technology in a very intuitive and easy-to-use device. Santiago, DIRECTV Community Specialist

I believe all they offer at these facilities are HDDVRs…which do not have voice. Correct?

You're right, other devices don't support the Voice Command feature. However, we recommend you ask them first for the available options since the offers could vary depending on the facility and other aspects. Santiago, DIRECTV Community Specialist

Those facilities are a Multi Dwelling Unit (MDU) account that is serviced by a 3rd party system operator the facility is contracted with. It is not operated by DirecTV itself but by the 3rd party.

The only DirecTV box to have a voice remote is the brand new Gemini (C71WK). This box is built to use internet for additional features. It cannot work by itself like a dedicated HDDVR as it is an extension of a Genie/Genie-2 Whole Home HDDVR which MDUs typically don't have.

Voice remotes are not something people are entitled to. For those that need them, there are optional 3rd party big button universal remotes. But TV providers are not required to manufacture their own special remotes.

Correct. Nursing homes tend to give their rooms all HR24s, and strictly HR24s. Unless your mom gets a separate directv account with a Genie HS17 and the Gemini receiver, she is stuck with the nursing home's HR24.

Commercial establishments are not allowed to activate Genie HD DVRs on their accounts, let alone a Gemini client which simply won't work without a Genie.

In lieu of being able to get a Gemini device, is there any way I can remotely Control my mother’s smart tv from my home? I can do this with my Xfinity.

You would need to setup a VPN connection that bridges your connection into your mother's nursing home's local area connection. You can then control the TV as if you were connected to the nursing home's WiFi and could control devices connected to that network.

However, this is a case of 'easier said than done.' Setting this up is cumbersome and requires a lot of work and a general sense of connectivity.

We apologize. But we do not have this feature at the moment. However, I will send you a PM/DM to gather more details and submit your suggestion for this feature in the near future. Gabriel, DIRECTV Community Specialist
