Which satelite is used for Local HD channels?

With the Frost on the dish the last couple mornings I have not been able to get my 4 local HD channels over the satellite (searching 771) - though I can get other channels with no problem.  Once the frost is gone, then I can get them with no problem.

Can you tell me which satellite/transponder is used for the Lexington KY local channels (18,27,36,56)?

My signal strength readings are:

Those signals look good except you don't show your 103s signals, and the 103ca signals are shown as zero (which I suspect is an error - check them again)

Thanks for the response.. I did miss the 103(S) - sorry.

Looks like 103(s) is pretty whimpy..   Is that where the Lexington local HD stations are broadcast from?

103s (99s also) deliver HD locals to different cities. But they are delivered via "spotbeams" - think of them as flashlight beams coming down from the satellite. If you are not in the beam then you don't see any signal, so low or zero signals on most satellites are quite normal.

Your signals are good, except for a big issue on 103s. According to my notes, your HD locals come from 103s TP6, and you are showing zero signal on that TP.  There's always a possibility my notes are wrong; I checked all the forums and no-one else is reporting the problem so whatever it is, it seems to be unique to you.

Check 103S again and see if TP6 is still zero. Are the channels still giving you a 771? Have you done anything to the system that could affect it - added cable modem, added off-air, anything?

Thanks for the response..

I looked again this morning - and for 103(s) they are:

1-8      68 86 35 97  0  0 na na

9-16   na na na na na na 51 0

17-24 50 67   0   0  94 94 53 54

25-32 na------------------------

TP5 and TP6 show 0 on the list.

It is only occasionally that I get the 771 on the 4 local channels.  They are working fine now.

Yesterday morning I could not get them, but we  had heavy frost on the roofs that morning.  I could get everything except the local channels.  Then by about 11:00 when I tried again they came in fine. (Frost was gone by then).  Nothing else has changed that I know of.  The problem has existed intermittently for quite some time - just never rose to the level of trying to do something about it.

I'll tweak it a bit to see if I can improve some of the numbers for the TPs on 103(s) and see if the problem shows up again.

Thanks!

How far away from Lexington are you actually located?

Do any of your neighbors have DirecTV?  Do they have this same problem?

I am 15 miles south of Lexington.  I haven't discussed the problem with any of my other neighbors - so I can't say.

TP6 is Zero.  The local channels are working fine now (with TP6 = 0).  The 771 problem occurred when I had frost on the dish, once the sun came up the problem went away. The last set of numbers I sent you :

I looked again this morning - and for 103(s) they are:

1-8      68 86 35 97  0  0 na na

9-16   na na na na na na 51 0

17-24 50 67   0   0  94 94 53 54

25-32 na------------------------

TP5 and TP6 show 0 on the list.

Was with the local channels working fine.  (Apparently Lex's local channels are somewhere other than 103(s) TP6.

This morning I was getting 771 again - so I captured the signal strength and took photos of them.  See attached.

(I took all 8 satelites - I'll just include 103s because of space)..   103s TP6 has shown 0 every time I've look at it the last couple days when the local channels are working, and this morning when they weren't.

I have photos of signal levels for 103s, 103ca, 103cb, 101, 110, 119, 99c, and 99s.  I can attach them if you would lilke (about 11 meg).

Check tuner 2 to see if the same problem exists there. Do you possibly have a diplexer in the line from the dish to that particular tuner, left over from a previous cable or off-air installation? I say that because it looks like your HD locals recently moved satellites and transponders. That means they are now at a different frequency.  If you have a diplexer in there, it might not have been a problem with the old frequencies but could cause a problem with the new ones. If it was that, you should find tuner 2 is OK. And that would explain why you get the problem sometimes and not others, whenever you are tuned to tuner 1 there will be no signals, whenever you are tuned to tuner 2 the signal is there.
