Whole Home DVR Issues, issues with streaming recorded shows to other HD receiver, main unit dropping off network...

Hey all,

I'm a new DirecTV customer and love it so far. We have the Whole Home DVR with one main HD DVR unit in the family

room and one HD receiver in the basement (and an SD receiver) in the bedroom that is not on the Whole Home DVR system.

We've only had one issue.

When we try and watch DVR'd shows in the basement you can start watching a show but eventually it will blank the screen and a message stating "family room" receiver no longer on the network, or something in that regard is displayed.  I forget the actual code. I can run a system test from the main unit and it states that the network connection to the "basement" unit has low bandwidth or something similar.  I can get this information tonight, I'm typing this from work.

Anyway, I setup a service call and the tech stated that the issue was that our 18 year old house has RG59 cabling vs. RG6 and that the DVR communications work at different frequencies that the RG59 cabling does not support.

Is this valid?  Have others seen this?

We have no issues watching DVR'd shows on the DVR unit directly.

My system was installed by DirecTV (or vendor).  I have looked at some of the diagrams on this forum and one of the things I noticed is that I don't see a white DECA module anywhere in my system and my power inserter is connected to the RG59 coming out of the wall and my main DVR is then plugged into it.  Does the main HD DVR need to have it's own dedicated connection to the splitter?

I will get the data off my system and post more data.

Any initial thoughts?

The service call should have gotten you new rg6 installed (if possible) Your problem is with the rg59 depending on if it is not soild copper or steel core. that is whta is causeing your issue.

If it is possible to run new wiring you need to call D* back and have it installed correctly. The way it is now will only cause you a lot of greif and hard feeling about your new service.

also having the power inserter inline with the HDDVR can cause this sort of problems.  is a well known fact, but some installer seem to ignore it.  when DirecTv comes show them this post, just in case the tech is not aware.

I have 2 HD DVR Direct TvV 24 receivers and 2 HD receivers.  I too am getting the message about not in network.  I spent 30 minutes on the phone with customer support  to no avail.

This is an extreme annoyance.  Please provide some help short or rewiring the whole house, which is not a possibility!

Happy to do so, but responding to a "me too" post is not good practice.  There are any number of variables here, so best to start your own new thread using the "Create New Post" button on the main forum page. Your problem may very well be different from the original poster's. With a new thread you can provide more information about your equipment, location, and troubleshooting you've tried so far. And this forum software makes it difficult to track or respond to folks that add onto someone else's thread.  When you post, did you check your power inserter configuration?
