Whole home dvr service

Hello, I currently have a Genie with 2 wired  mini clients and a separate HD/Dvr receiver and a HD receiver.  5 TV’s connected in total. I also have the whole home DVR service.

if I cancel the whole home DVR service does it effect me being able to watch a recording from one of my wired mini clients? Can I still record a program from a wired mini  client?

You can't cancel home DVR service. It's mandatory with the genie, but also your clients would not work without  it

Is DVR service the same as whole home?

No, DVR service is also required with a Genie and any receiver with a hard drive.

As stated before Whole Home is mandatory with a Genie.

The Genie is DirecTV's Advance Whole Home HDDVR. It requires all 3 receiver services: HD, DVR, and Whole Home DVR.

Only if your setup didn't have the Genie would Whole Home DVR be optional. Naturally, Mini Genies cannot work without the main Genie as they are extensions (Clients) of it so share everything it has.

We're here to answer your question, @Hardbody! Thanks for the assist @TexasBrit, @shannon02, and Juniper!

No, you will not able to record from one client to another. Whole-Home DVR service is required. With this service you are able to:

  • Record shows on an HD DVR in one room and watch on any Whole-Home capable HD or HD DVR receiver in the house.
  • Whole-Home DVR customers can:
    • Manage Playlist from any room.
    • Set separate parental controls for each television.
    • Access On Demand programming

Please let us know if this helps.
