Whole Home option
Do I need to subscribe to Whole Home option if I am using Genie 2 and 4 mini receivers? Should I be able to access all recordings, etc. via the Genie 2 without a "Whole Home" subscription? Thank you.

Whole home is mandatory with a Genie. In theory you don't need it if you have a standalone Genie server but if you have clients the system uses whole home to send the signals to the client boxes so your configuration would not work without it.
For a short while the fee was waived for people with a standalone genie server but that could never have applied to a genie 2 because it does not operate standalone, only with clients. Now everyone with a Genie has to have whole home anyway.

Whole Home DVR allows recordings of one HDDVR/Genie/Genie-2 to be viewable from other boxes in the home. That is what it makes it work.
The Genie/Genie-2 is DirecTV's Advanced Whole Home HDDVR. So unlike other regular HDDVRs, the Whole Home service is not optional even if you only have a single TV.
