Why cant I choose what HDDVR to record to from my H-24 HD receiver?

I currently have two HD DVR's (Master Bedroom & Family Room).  I have one H-24 HD reciever in a bedroom.  The H-24 receiver can see both DVR's  and can access both playlists just fine.  However I can only record to the Master Bedroom from the H-24 reciever.  Why?  After calling Direct TV I was told this is normal and that the H-24 does not let me pick what DVR to record on.  I have varified that both recievers have plenty of space and are not in use at the time i am trying to record to the Family Room.  How can I go about making the Family Room the default DVR to record to and not the Master Bedroom?  The Master Bedroom is actually 90% full and the Living Room is only 5% full.  Both my DVR's are open to my network and sharing is enabled.

Yep, that's how it works.  You'll have to set up those recordings on the desired DVR itself, or use the iPad app.

Actually you SHOULD be able to choose either HDDVR from the H24 HD receiver.  make sure that when you select something to record from the H24, press the LEFT arrow key on the HDDVR name list.  this will bring up a drop down list which will let you select which HDDVR you can schedule your recording.  NOte that this is NOT possible from HDDVR to HDDVR.

Good catch, peds48!   rsd, do you have an H24 HD Receiver or and HR24 HD DVR in that bedroom.

My receiver is an H-24.  It randomly defaults to what ever receiver it sees first.  I have never been able to press the left arrow key and bring up both DVR's.   It randomly picks from Master Bedroom to Living Room.  No big deal I can pick  what to record from with my I Pad.  I just wish it gave me a choice from the H-24.  Everything else works just fine!  Does the HR24 give me that option?

the last sentence in post #3 says : "NOte that this is NOT possible from HDDVR to HDDVR".

Do you press the left arrow key and enter to open up the pull down menu to choose the location to record?

I believe you may not be performing the function properly.  The HD receivers are capable of choosing (operator choice) any HD DVR in the system.  Read the above instructions carefully and give it another try.  You might want to do a red button (inside card door) reset of the H24 beforehand, just in case it has a hitch in it's system.

It worked great.  Arrow left and the press enter.  I feel so stupid! Thank you for your help.  Its sad the DirectTV customer service could not tell me a simple key stroke to make this work.  I appreciate your help and patience!

Don't feel stupid for goodness sake.  The Directv HD DVR has menus several layers deep and it takes some time for one to learn all the in's and out's.
