Why won't Direct TV send me a return box?
I've called DIRECT TV 6 times and chatted twice online with these people.
They have yet to send me a label or box to return my equipment.
I now have been billed FOR NOT RETURNING the EQUIPMENT.
This is a farce and a trick to get money from people. They say that I will get a refund in the form of some kind of prepaid card (that I will not be able to use). We're talking $150 here.
This is a freaking scam and they should be prosecuted. Cannot get DIRECT TV to send me a return box or label for equipment.
Called them 6 times since the middle of Dec 2020. Chatted online with them a few times.
Now they bill me for not sending back the equipment.
What does one do?
Hire a lawyer?
I have called them NUMEROUS times and they have flat out LIED to me.
The 'prepaid' cards they send I cannot use in my area. This is all a freaking scam on their part to get more money....I am living through it right now.
Besides that, if this company was SO HONEST, why don't they automatically send a return box for the equipment?
They have the billing address and know where the equipment is.
This is a scam.
I will be contacting a lawyer. This has to be dealt with.

Double check by their respective lookup links to see if a participating location might be around that you weren't aware. Just best to be sure.
Call DirecTV and verify the physical service address is correct on the account. The old process of sending a return box goes by FedEx, so will not deliver to the mailing address if different (such as P.O. Box). When you get the voice system say "cancel" so you get a more experienced (usually) agent. If a return order is already in the system they can check the status (tracking or if it has even shipped out in the first place).
They don't automatically send a return kit anymore, but they used to. AT&T changed the process to line up with theirs. Too many return kits were resent, commonly because someone moved and it went to the old address. Now this saves costs on outbound shipping, plus generally speeds up the return as you can drop it off sooner instead of waiting on the box. They are not setup to map locations close to you themselves, so the return kit must be manually ordered.
Prepaid cards are anywhere that accept Visa. If nobody in your area does, that is unusual. However DirecTV no longer has that money as it is on the card, they already paid it out. You could check the information on the card to see about an alternative way to transfer the funds to your bank account.

I drove 20 miles one way and 20 miles another direction....one to a UPS facility and one was a FEDEX facility......both said I needed a BOX/LABEL they could scan.
A friend got one of those "CARDS" last year when they sent him his "REFUND" ,,, there is no bank in our area that will even accept them.
These people are scammers and do this on purpose. I have no idea WHY you all are trying to defend this practice when it says in the disclaimer that "*I am not an AT&T employee, and the views and opinions expressed on this forum are purely my own. Any product claim, statistic, quote, or other representation about a product or service should be verified with the manufacturer, provider, or party.".
Sounds to me like you are either working for them or have someone that is.
I will contact a lawyer and see what can be done.

They are Visa gift cards of corse you can’t pull the cash an add it to your bank account but you can certainly go into Walmart and buy a toaster or fill your tank at the gas station and even buy a snack while there. 🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦

I just did a Google search and your post was the first thing that popped up; I am in the exact same situation. I was diagnosed with cancer and the only store I can return to is over an hour away. I have called twice for a return kit and been told that it was sent to me. No return kit was ever sent and now I’m being charged for the equipment. Not only that but they closed my account and went ahead and sent it to collections within just a couple months... so I can’t even call DIRECTV and hold them accountable for this scam. This has to be illegal.

The return process itself is not illegal, but there are significant problems right now. Short staffing and additional cleaning and protection measures have caused delays is both the sending of return kits as well as the receipt back (whether return kit or the new process).
If you have checked that there is is not a FedEx Office or The UPS Store (not shipping annex or similar) within reasonable difference and a return kit has not even sent out, then I would call and speak to a supervisor. I would also verify if the bill was for a non-return fee (NRF) or other charges to clear the account.
Unfortunately balance remains valid until such time as they adjust it, so outstanding balance after account canceled going a couple months past would naturally go to a collection agency.
If this cannot be resolved over the phone or through the collection agency, then a BBB complaint may be tried.
