Wiring Existing Home to Get Ready for Installation
I'm looking for some information on getting my house ready for DirecTV installation. I ordered the HD DVR, HD receiver, and two standard receivers. I'm also getting the Whole-Home DVR. I have a few questions and can't really get any good answers anywhere. It's an old house that's already wired for HD cable (which I have until the DirecTV comes). I understand that each location needs a separate RG-6 cable run to a multiswitch. I'd like to have everything ready before the installers come in a month. I'm installing a structured wiring panel in my basement and all of the home's phone, network, and TV cables will join there.
1. How many RG-6 cables must I run from the location of the satellite dish to my structured wiring panel?
2. Does the HD DVR need two RG-6 cables or just one?
3. Do the RG-6 cables from the satellite dish go directly to the multiswitch in my structured wiring panel or do any of them have to go directly to the HD DVR?
4. Does the HD DVR or the HD receiver need ethernet network connections to my home network for the Whole-Home DVR to work?
5. Do I need a phone line connected to any of my receivers?
I don't know what exact equipment I will be receiving from the installers, so I'm sorry about not being able to give that information. My upstairs is torn apart right now so I'd like to get the cables run before I have the drywall installed.
