Dropping $10/month Unlimited DVR for existing customers
Now that Unlimited DVR is included with all DirecTV Stream packages, has DirecTV Stream dropped this charge for existing customers? My account is still being charged $10/month for Unlimited DVR. Have any existing long-time customers had any luck getting DirecTV Stream to drop this charge from their account without having to threaten to cancel service?

No worries. AT&T's different names for the service has caused many problems; DIRECTV NOW, AT&T TV NOW, and finally DIRECTV STREAM.
If you still need help with that other issue, when you go to the forum website just verify at the top you jump into the correct section. Hope all goes well.

As I indicated to @Glenee , they note in the description on the website that the new subscriber deal isn’t available to customers switching from an existing DirecTV satellite or U-Verse subscription. They don’t specify what particular things would not be included (but your and Glenee’s experience implies the free unlimited DVR would be one). I don’t understand why they have that restriction - as @Juniper indicates, they are separate services, and there are strong indications that they’d like to migrate customers from those other services to DirecTV Stream, which is harder to do if you penalize them for switching.
@Glenee - with respect to the AT&T stores, it isn’t clear to me what the relationship between the AT&T sales organization and DirecTV is these days, since they are separate companies. Nor is it clear how much assistance you could get there for DirecTV Stream issues - even when DirecTV was part of AT&T, I don’t think the reps at the stores were particularly helpful. However, they do explicitly say that for cancellations you can return the Ospreys to (official) company stores, no matter whether you got them there or they were shipped to you (from an online order). Unknown if that would also be the case for warranty issues, but one would hope so.

The AT&T store was a nice experience. They went into the back and retrieved the Ospry boxes and the opened each one of them up and set them up for my account before I took them home. It took him a while to put in all the information for the boxes individually, but he wanted to make sure all I had to do was plug em in and start watching . It was the best experience my wife and I had ever had with AT&T. Just a class Act all the Way. I do remember the employees in there were not happy about the new company taking over DTV because they now got very little discount and before I think they had a very sweet deal.
Not one but everyone keep saying it was because I went to the AT&T store that I do not get the lifetime DVR deal. Like I said before just a purple mule deal.
It's not right but it looks more and more like that's the way it is.
You Know, If I could just wrap my brain around why that's the way it is, I know I would come to terms with this a lot faster.
The reason I say that is BS is just not getting it done for me.

We switched from DTV satellite to stream last month and ended up with a login issue that wouldn't allow us to sign in or access streaming. The tech support people know about it, and I read online that others switching over under their same ATT bundle accounts had that issue, and the only way to resolve it is to cancel and start a new account.
But when I did that with the help of a live agent, I lost not only a $5 monthly discount on the TV plan but a supposed permanent discount for unlimited DVR I had been given when moving over from satellite. And they could only offer a $20 credit for having to sign up and pay twice for service instead of refunding the first month that I ended up not using. All for something that was a known issue and not my fault. Not to mention hours spent on the phone and online chat so far about account and tech issues. This forum has been vastly more helpful than my interactions with their customer service.

jjhochunk. They never even stop to realize the time spent straightening out their mistakes. There are just so many people handling these accounts and they get a little script of what was supposed to be done, but not enough info to straighten a real problem out. Sorry to hear about your problems but unfortunetley it happens more than it should.

And after we dropped satellite we found out that DirecTV satellite and stream are separate businesses because satellite salespeople started calling multiple times a day to talk us back into satellite, after years of calling loyalty and asking for discounts they claimed were never available.

All of these issues have been discussed and noted many times before in the forums. My suggestion is to always do your homework, regardless what the business is selling.

jjochunk. Yep. At least when it was the Old Directv they would try everything in their power to keep you .
The new one tries everything in their power to get you back which is too late.

I just checked the latest Ad for Directv stream. They are showing Free Unlimited DVR and they will pay in $10 a month credit for your osprey box if you purchase at time of check out for new customers. What a way to treat your exisiting customers. They really should just drop the charging for Dvr for everyone and get in tune with the times. All the major players have dropped the charge for Cloud DVR except Directv. Some of the small players that have a small charge are going to be dropping theirs due to the cloud storage drop in prices. There are more cloud storage Business opening every day.
I wonder if you cancel your Service how long you would have to leave to be considered a New Customer and get what they should give to you any way.
Year or two.

For DirecTV it is at least a full 2 years before a start-over. Don't know how long (if ever) it would be for DIRECTV STREAM.

There's no "start over" with DirecTV Stream. Just cancel existing account and sign up again under a new email address.

Ok so no "start over" using the same email address? That is a work around, though annoying. But at least it is an option.

Appreciate the insider guidance. I may have my Son open a account as a last resort. They sure can create some hoops.
