Streaming boxes will not stay connected to wifi

Really frustrated at this point.  Have had the service since May.  Worked really well until the last three weeks or so.  I have two tvs with a box, they will not stay connected to wifi.  At least once a day I have to do one of the following to get it to work again.  Usually I have to hit the red reset button, sometimes just reconnecting will work.  I called, they said it must be bad boxes. Not likely that both worked fine for months, then both started having problems at the same time.  Nonetheless, they sent me two new boxes, hooked them both up, next day same problem.  It takes 5-10 minutes from the time I want to watch tv until I can watch tv, unacceptable.  It is not my wifi, I work from home all day and never have any issues.  Anyone else experiencing something like this?  Thank you!

Did you restart your internet modem? People are reporting the same thing on reddit and it's their wifi. Are you also seeing a red light? I have mine connected via ethernet and never have any internet connection issues.

Yes, red light.  I don't see how it can be wifi.  Today, one tv was fine turning on in the morning and has been left on and working all day.  The other tv I just turned on in the evening & no longer connected to my wifi. (Other devices are connected to it just fine at the moment I am getting this message.)

Tried the following, just reconnect to wifi from systems, nope, says it cannot connect, when any other device can.  Went and reset the router, still doesn't connect.  Reset the box with the red button, then reconnect from the systems menu, and it will finally connect.

Perhaps the wifi drops for a moment during the day and the box loses the connection, but this box would have to be designed to reconnect on it own, wouldn't it?

Regardless, even if it is not smart enough to reconnect. I know that at the point I turn it on and it says not connected.  At that moment, I know wifi is working, so reconnecting in the systems menu should be all that I have to do, not all the rest of this nonsense with resetting the box.

I have At&t fiber and have never had any issue with it at all, outside of these directv streaming boxes.  :(

I cannot keep this service if I have to do this everyday, it's nuts.

Sounds like the same issues we are having as well. We've had the streaming service just since the weekend. The TV doesn't like to switch back and forth from our other streaming apps such as peacock Hulu ect....they don't connect then we try going back to the TV and the screen goes blank.

We end up having to unplug the TV and start all over

Known issue with WiFi only, not ethernet, based on forums and Reddit, seems it surfaced with the latest app release + Android R (v11). Seems they have acknowledged and working on a fix. Seems the workaround is for now do what you've been doing (restart)

So plugging directly into ethernet works better? Might have to move our equipment out to the living room and try that

Oh, that is great news.  How did you find this info?

Plenty of posts - yeah try ethernet - seems the issue is WiFi - on my side I've been experiencing 3rd party apps not having sound after Osprey comes out of stand-by mode - a restart fixes that - issue also surfaced with latest app update + Android R (v11) release.... too many moving pieces IMO

Thank you for the info.  Hopefully they will fix it with an update, no ethernet jack anywhere near either tv.

@gallagher2 How far away from your internet modem/router is your Dtv Stream box? You can buy long ethernet cables to run until your issue is fixed. You might also try a wifi extender if your box is far away. Then run an ethernet cable from the wifi extender into your Dtv Stream box. Amazon sells ones that plug into your power wall outlets with ethernet jacks for 20 bucks and under.

Thanks for the suggestions.  Really far from router to either box, the extender with ethernet sounds like it might work

@gallagher2 Yah a friend of mine has it hooked up like that. If the box is having an issue connecting to the wifi---having the extender connect to the wifi and running an ethernet cable out from the extender to the Dtv box will bypass the issue.

Also...I seem to recall a while back people using wifi were having issues if they used non letters/numbers for their wifi password. U might also check to see if you are using special characters like @#$%^ and if so...change it.

Our Internet goes out daily, at least three or four times a day sometimes it’s off for hours. I am going to look for another streaming service or something because this is ridiculous.

Well if your internet goes out all the time then no matter where you go you will have issues.
