DTV free Upgrade

My problem is similar to others. I received a letter from DTV saying I need to upgrade to HD or I would lose some channels, this has also been broadcast on some of the tv stations. I called the number given and they said I could upgrade at no cost to me with no increase in monthly bill and also since I have been a loyal customer for so long they were giving me DVR at no charge. The first bill showed the charges and at the bottom showed a minus amount same as the charges. Starting the second month all charges were put on the bill but nothing was removed. I have talked to nine different people with DTV. Some said they couldn’t do anything about it and some said they would get it corrected and call me back. I haven’t heard from anyone

Sounds like a optional upgrade was ordered instead of a MPEG swap.

DirecTV is shutting down the MPEG-2/SD-only channels. Everyone needs MPEG-4 equipment going forward or just accept to go without TV.

A MPEG swap is free, the HD monthly service is credited going forward as part of the order, and there is no new service agreement.

An optional upgrade comes with a 24 month agreement and no ongoing credit for the HD service.

If you didn't already have a single DVR (paying $10 for the service), then I suspect the agent placed an upgrade and gave a one-time credit to cover the HD service to make it look like it was a swap placed.

If order confirmation shows 24 month agreement, then that absolutely was an upgarde which details the HD service is required. Upon accepting completed install, you are accepting that the order is correct. This is why it is important to review that order confirmation before the work was done. The remaining recourse would be to file a BBB complaint about the agent giving you false info to pad their stats with an upgrade. That sends the situation to the corporate level for another chance to resolve it.

No, the last person I talked to was going to refer it to their supervisor and that’s the last I heard. I’m looking at disconnecting DTV altogether. I think now I’ve talked to eleven different people.

Why would ask anyone to post their account number in a public forum???  Are you a DirecTV employee?  If so, your signature should state that.
