False charge for ATT DirectTV
Hi,
Experian shows an unpaid debt from ATT DirectTV, for around $700. I confirmed with ATT themselves that I've never had DirectTV, but the collection agency records it as a debt.
Experian disputed the claim for me, but the only result is
"The information you disputed has been verified as accurate"
and
"You may contact the entity that originated the information and dispute with them directly. This is usually the company that provided you the loan or other credit,..."
But the only people who seemed to 'originate' the claim was the collection agency themselves. I already contacted AT&T.
It sounds like the next step is a lawyer. Has anyone had this same problem?

Complaints to the BBB often yield better results that trying to work through the DirecTV Support maze.

If DirecTV/AT&T confirmed you haven't had that account, then collection agency has bad info (or a scam). If legitimate company then I agree a BBB complaint would be appropriate.

They actually are a legitimate collections agency, but there are tons of examples where they report false debts.
Thanks Juniper, I'm filing a complaint right now with BBB, and also asking for an attorney referral from an attorney in another field.
