DTV doesn't renew the contract, you are now month to month. AT&Ts CEO stated last year there will be no more discounts for existing customers.

Thanks, that should save me from banging my head against the wall....looking for other alternatives, mostly Prime, Netflix and others and cutting Directv to the bone.

Of course an existing customer cannot get a new customer deal. That should be self-explanatory.
Intro specials are one-time meant to attract business and allow people to try the service at a lower cost. After the special they either stay on their current option at the regular rate, or reduce service to something that fits them better.
Because of people with too much in discounts, their CEO announced that existing customer discounts would be pulled back. Once problem accounts are dealt with it is expected that discounts would return, but in moderation. Unfortunately afterwards the pandemic hit which affects finances of most businesses.
Contract being up doesn't make you a new customer again. So reduce service to something that is more comfortable for you or go with another TV provider you feel works better.
