Promotion ended, bill went up.

Last time this happened I wasted a ton of time dealing with call center people I could not at all understand. Finally got transferred to English speaking people and found out I had to more or less cancel my service and schedule a disconnect, after going through all that I was able to get a $40 discount. Does anyone have a better number to call to get to the stateside call center? It is insanely frustrating dealing with the outsourced one- you can't communicate and they can't help anyway! Seems they would have a better way of handling long term customers.

Wow, nevermind. Called and got some really good customer service- I'm impressed, been a customer for many years and my only problem has been terrible customer service. Looks like ATT has made sum improvements!

You call and get the next agent available, no matter where they are at. That is how it works. They do not have a way to request location of agent, country of origin, what their first language is, etc.

Also be aware that discounts have greatly been pulled back. They are dealing with a situation where some customers had too much in discounts. If you recently got a $40 discount, consider yourself extremely lucky as those should be essentially gone.

Time to arrange the service within your budget instead of relying on discounts. Nice when they are available, but always be prepared for the full cost. Doesn't matter how long you've been a customer. They are still a business so cannot always afford to be so "charitable".

Satellite TV providers are losing money. They're much less willing these days to continue offering sweet discounts, especially for existing subscribers.

Try this loyalty number, I used it this morning- 866-595-1331. Call between 8am-10pm EST M-F, and 9am-10pm EST S-S. Long time customers usually get some perks even if in contract.

Yeah. I didn't say "no promotions". I pointed out that they're getting harder. Your point about "customers in good standing" is an important factor.

I certainly wasn't saying no promotions. But they had been pulled back, so not handed out quite as easily as they used to be.

Also making the point that this stems from too many people relying on discounts to afford the service. They need to realize that TV is entertainment and budget accordingly. If you cannot afford service without discounts, then you cannot afford it.

I have no qualms about asking for discounts. Enjoy them when available. But be prepared that sometimes they just might not be much or not there at all. Plan for the full cost and adjust services accordingly if you need to.

They aren't obligated to give discounts, yet people seem to think they are entitled to them.
