Retention Discount GOING DOWN

Long time customer - since 1997!   Used to get a $40 off per month for 24 months.  Then, it was only $40 for 12 months.  Now, they say only $30 for 12 months.   At the same time, the base package cost has gone up for 3 straight years now.  What gives??

I was told by Steve today, to call back around 1-20-22, for any more promotions.

Agents do not know when any new promotions may be in the future. At best they may give you the expectation that there normally be any good discounts available at least until your current special ends. Agents that tell customers to call back at a specific time to check for discounts are just stretching out the issue and making it somebody else's problem. So always be skeptical of an agent who tells you to call back like that.

What those agents should do is do a proper review of the account with the customer and get the best fit of the services they can. It may not be the dream setup but having a long-term plan for services at a price and value you can agree upon is much better than calling again and again. Fair enough to the ones who just check what is available to not miss out, but enough is enough with those that call and plead for discounts because they are such a loyal customer that somehow makes them more special than the thousand/million other customers out there.

I agree, doesn't hurt to ask. Just don't trust when an agent says you can get a discount at any specific time in the future, as they only can see discount options in the present.

But when one is criticizing retention discounts that they have been relying on, as the OP of the thread demonstrates, then that is a consumer problem. They are the ones to wake up to real costs and to work on not living beyond their means by expecting charity from entertainment services.
