Why my bill continues to increase...

My bill went up again this month ($52), so again i call in to do the yearly finagling. Talked to 3 different people and we could not come to an agreement. This will be my final month with all ATT service (phone, internet and Direct TV). I will be moving to spectrum for Internet and TV and T-mobile for my cell phone. It a shame that after being with ATT since my first cell phone (20 plus years ago) that it has come to this. I understand they need to make money, but i need to save money. An additional hassle i do not need at this time, but has to be done. Hopefully others will read this and take a stand...

Discounts were discontinued a year ago (maybe longer).

DTV only raises the base price at the beginning of the year with emails going out in Oct,Nov about it so any increases are discount ending or PPV. You have to check your bills to see what changed.

All TV providers have to raise their prices as the channels demand more money when their contracts expire.

Are you complaining to the gas stations and the grocery stores?

Your promotions expired. It’s no longer an option to call and negotiate discounts after they expire

It is not so much that your bill continues to increase, but that you can't seem to handle it without discounts. Those discounts are temporary perks, not intended to keep being put back on once they ended. Because of that their CEO announced quite some time ago that they would be pulled back while they address problem accounts. Once the financial situation is resolved it is expected that discounts would return, but in moderation.

Review the channels you enjoy and see if a lower costing package would better suit your viewing habits. Remove optional services or even an additional TV if not used enough to make it worth it. If like most you have a DVR, record a bunch before making a programming change as those stay on there making a nice backup library.

DirecTV's cost only goes through an annual adjustment in January, which historically is less than $10 (based on what you have). Networks increase their costs over the years so TV providers must raise bills accordingly.

TV is a luxury entertainment service. Instead of complaining you can't keep discounts, do the adult thing and take responsibility for your own finances. If you cannot afford service without discounts then you cannot afford it and it is up to you to make changes that fits your budget. It is not the obligation of a business to keep giving you discounts simply because you are getting more service than you can afford.

Per the full post they know full well why their bill "increased". They are not happy that it is not an ongoing price and they had to call yearly to try to get discounts again and this time were told know. They want others to "take a stand" because DirecTV will not give them the discounts they demand.

Discounts are nice when available, but never rely on them. In the end it is the consumer's responsibility to work within budget, not the company to bow down to discount demands/expectations.
