2 dvrs R22's

@litzdog911 No, actually, as a person with a disability, I'm trying to make it as easy possible to redo the set up if it doesn't work.  For weeks I've been told there is no way it could be using wifi and it is 100% using wifi.  So, if I disconnect the CCK and I no longer have access to the genie programming, then it's a lot easier to just plug it back in than to try and get to the rear of the dvr.

As previously described, you really want to disconnect the R22 from ethernet so that it's forced to rely on the coax cable networking. 

After they connect the connected home adapter.

Disconnect R22 from Ethernet/wireless CCK.

Might have to red button reset Genie and R22 to refresh the info.

End result is recordings are shared via coax as intended. There is no longer conflicts of disconnecting from home network as you don't have 2 boxes fighting to control that connection.

DirecTV does not rely on internet as is from satellites in orbit for TV only. As such, even if you have no internet, Whole Home DVR (sharing recording playlists) still works.

so tell me again how it's going to just use coax... removed the ethernet cable from the r22.  Reset both r22 and genie and just for good measure, rebooted the modem.  Made sure the genie programming is shared.  Whole home status shows whole home dvr "authorized" and no networked dvrs found.  So now I'm going to reconnect the ethernet cable and reconnect the r22 to the wifi so I can watch the programming.  

As stated you have to get a Connected Home Adapter that connects to the coax before it connects to the back of the R22 and the other end goes to the back of the R22 then the supplied Ethernet cable connects to the R22 and the adapter then the HR44 will be able to see it.

Sounds like the R22 is not properly connected on the coax. It was built for the older multiswitch, so needs a Connected Home Adapter to properly connect over SWM. All Genies are SWM-only so have what they need built-in.

@shannon02 No, that's actually that's never been stated.  What has been stated for over 2 weeks now is that whole home uses coax (and isn't using wifi, which was totally incorrect in this situation) and the only reason it's not using coax is because the r22 has a CCKW attached to it and the r22 and genie are fighting for control.  The r22 has a green label SWiM attached between the box and the coax.  First time I'm hearing anything about a "connected home adapter".

@shannon02 Yah, don't recall that last part being there when I read the 1st msg the first time, the 2nd time I had no idea who you were replying to or what it meant and the 3rd was you telling me you already stated it with no explanation of (Edited per community guidelines) a connected home adapter is.  You're not very helpful when you seem to assume the people asking questions already know the answers.  The others gave tangible steps even if not correct to fix the problem.

@Juniper So even if the r22 has a swm attached (green label) that won't do it?  Can I just call dtv and ask for a connected home adapter and get it sent or does it have to be installed?

Yes DTV may send you one or you can buy one online.

I would call DirecTV first. Hopefully they can send one free of charge as it should have been there in the first place. Otherwise buying yourself is an option.

Whole Home DVR was supposed to only go over coax. But the boxes are not optimized for being internet connected, which causes conflicts if not setup exactly right.

The boxes were originally designed that each connected to internet separately. Once Whole Home was introduced, they fight against each other as each trying to be the one that gives the connection to the entire setup. That is why only one should be there. As the Genie was built like a server and has the CCK built-in, their connection is the one that must be used as no way to remove it.

Thanks. Would the connected home adapter be needed if I were using a genie and genie mini?  The problem might of been that after the dtv (alleged) tech support person lied and said a 4k tv required a genie to work and after I told her I didn't want to replace my r22 (or the old sd receiver in the guest room), she still put the order in for the genie and 2 minis.  The tech cancelled the minis while here, but never mentioned whole home or the adapter. Does the connected home adapter just hook in between the wall and the genie?

Minis don't need it, only the older receivers like the R22 and you connect it to the R22 by removing the coax from the back of the R22 then you connect the coax to the Connected Home Adapter then the whip connects to the back of the R22 then you connect the Ethernet ports with the Ethernet cable.  Tech didn't lie in order to get the 4K channels you have to have an HR54 Genie or an HS17 Genie2.
