About SD going away.....
How to know when SD boxes will not work.....was told by chat that
- . HD boxes will work but only until I receive the 3rd letter from the DIRECTV.
- . You will get the notification on your tv screen, that you will losing HD channels.
Have HD, Whole-Home, DVR service, and 4 TV Access Receivers (2 HDs (H25-100 and HR24-500) and 2 SD(D12-100). Want to keep HD receivers and swap HD receivers for SD. Have been told that my HD boxes will not work when SD is gone only genie will work.

You are viewing the Genie on the minis as it is the Genie that stores the recording and has the tuners and if it is an HR54 it will most likely be powering the SWM LNB on the dish arm making it hard to move.

You have an H25 and HR24 (not H24) currently.
Personally I would have the Genie and HR24 on the two TVs used the most. This is because those are your dedicated HDDVRs. The Genie will have 5 tuners (one used by Mini Genie) with 1TB and HR24 has 2 tuners and 500GB.
The H25 can watch what the others have recorded, but cannot record itself. It does have Autotune instead of DVR. I would have this where one of your D12s currently is for the smoothest transition on how it all works compared to what you're already used to.
Assuming you get the HR54, it is powering the SWM LNB. So I would have that where you want it long term from the start. Not impossible to move, just not quite as easy as other boxes.

My latest email about the SD swap gave a deadline:
If you do not replace this equipment before 4/9/2024, you will no longer be able to view some of your favorite local programming, including (but not limited to): ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, and PBS.
So is that all that will happen is a loss of local channels????
Do the HD receivers (H25 and HR24} have a warranty? Where is this shown on the account?
Have one of SD 12 connected to a TV without HDMI..using white/red/yellow plugs. Plan to put min genie.....is that possible?
How do I know for sure that I do not have a contract?

1. Yes, a loss of locals is the only reason to swap SD equipment at the moment. All national channels (100 onward) will remain completely functional in SD for more years on 101.
2. If you originally got the H25 and HR24 from DIRECTV directly, they are leased to you and therefore are able to be replaced for the cost of shipping ($19.95) should you ever have any issues. If you have the Protection Plan, replacing broken equipment is free (in other words, the shipping fee is waived with the Protection Plan).
3. Yes, you can connect a Genie mini to a TV without HDMI using one of the adapters below (unknown whether the Genie Mini will come with one): https://www.amazon.com/SatelliteSale-10-Pin-Composite-DirecTV-Replacement/dp/B0833CZPZN/ref=pd_lpo_sccl_1/134-6156245-3949723?pd_rd_w=Y9LKl&content-id=amzn1.sym.1ad2066f-97d2-4731-9356-36b3edf1ae04&pf_rd_p=1ad2066f-97d2-4731-9356-36b3edf1ae04&pf_rd_r=MWER70ZPYC1MFP51CY9T&pd_rd_wg=f6jEg&pd_rd_r=30e4774c-20b8-48b6-8e26-e36c3eae73e4&pd_rd_i=B0833CZPZN&th=1
I highly recommend that you replace the SD-only TV with a modern high-definition TV in the future. Most are not too expensive and if you want a generally sized 40 inch HDTV, they only run for around $100-$200. More especially, getting an HDTV will allow you to make the most out of HD.
4. If you haven’t moved in the last 12 months or replaced equipment/added equipment OTHER than SD receivers in the last 2 years, you are NOT currently in a contract. To ensure this, call DIRECTV (number in my greeting below) and say ‘billing’ to the robot to be sent to the billing department where an agent can confirm the current status of any contract (if at all).

Pretty much what @detuch254 said. However, one exception.
Most agents (including billing) are not supposed to discuss your existing service agreement. This is because the most common reason to ask is someone is considering cancelling. So they are supposed to transfer you even if they can see if you have an agreement or not. So to avoid an extra transfer, when you get the voice prompt say "cancel" to route you directly. Since you are just verifying for your peace of mind and not canceling, the agent should be very happy to help as they are not clicking the disconnect button.
Based on the discussion, I believe you've been without a service agreement for years. This MPEG swap doesn't come with one so you remain month-to-month.

While replacement H25 receivers are free the stock is getting smaller and smaller as they haven't been made in years.

I know HR24s haven't been made in years. But if the H25 being the only non-Genie SWM-only receiver isn't made anymore, then I really what to have it out with whomever at AT&T decided that all DirecTV customers should be forced into a all-in-one restrictive setup.
The new co-owner better change direction on this.

AFAIK DTV orders X numbers of receivers that take X amount of time to make while this is being done they are working on the next line which starts production some time after the last line finishes.

My R22-100 receiver-DVR stopped receiving channels 1 thru 69 (including the locals) a month or so ago. I do recall receiving a notice awhile back advising to expect that. So now what should I do? Is there a way to keep that receiver (It is has a lot of recorded shows I would like to keep) and get those channels back, or do I need to call and arrange for a new receiver and dish? If that's the case, can they be sent to me? Or does it require a service call?

If you can you need to add an H/HR receiver to your account that will turn it into an HR22. You also need a SWM slimline dish.

The R22 is a special model and follows specific rules. Though the model number indicates it is an SDDVR, it does have MPEG-4/HD capability in the right setup.
If you have a 2nd TV (or more) and at least one box is an H or HR model, naturally with HD service, than the R22's MPEG-4 capability is turned on (essentially becoming an HR model). You would just change the Guide setting from "Hide HD Channels" to "Hide SD Duplicates", and preferably be connected to the TV by HDMI.
Be aware that if you are able to keep the R22 that MPEG-4 recordings take up more room. So it fills up the hard drive quicker. You can supplement that with an external eSATA hard drive (max supported is 2TB) but that is used instead of the internal one. You can return back to using the internal (since recordings weren't lost), but the eSATA port is a bit delicate, not intended for constant swapping between internal and external.
However, if that R22 is your only box, that would have to be replaced. Unfortunately DirecTV does not have an option to transfer recordings. They are encrypted to their exact box and cannot be moved, even if you were using an external eSATA drive for larger storage.

Hello again. Thanks Juniper and shannon02 for those tips. I followed your recommended procedure and, after doing some tweaking and testing, it does indeed seem like my R22 should continue to work. It is now getting a very good HD picture, where it wasn't before. However, that receiver is on its own round 18" dish (separate from the other receivers). So, in order to get all the channels, that will obviously need to be changed out to the SlimLine. I am leaning toward the AU9-SL3-SWM from Solid Signal. My question now is . . . Should I go with the PI-29Z 29v inserter as it calls for, or the somewhat cheaper 21v PI-21? I don't expect to be splitting off to additional receivers, so it would seem that I won't need a splitter or multiswitch (requiring the additional power), but I wanted to get your take on it. Will either one work? And should I spend a few extra dollars to get 29v instead of 21v? Thanks.

Doesn't matter which one you use all the SWM LNB needs is 21v to work. The 29v is for long dish runs to help prevent voltage drop.

The 18" is the old MPEG-2/SD-only receiver. So yes it will need replacing. That will be at your own cost being since DirecTV only does the complimentary MPEG swap for the standard install of the service address which doesn't cover more than a single dish included.
As @shannon02 mentions, it depends how long the coax from the dish to the box will be if you need the more powerful one.

AFAIK the 101 will still be sending MPEG4 nationwide channels that the 18" round dish will receive, just no local channels.
